i was wondering what things are affected by memory bandwidth. Mainly i was wondering what programs would benefit from dual channel as oppose to single channel like 754. im am asking cause i have a 3.4e ES at 14x times 266fbs at 3.72ghz right now at 1:1 dual channel and if i were to change to a 3000+ 754 newcastle at single and that be at around 300fbs x8 or 9. What differnces would i see, will i see a differnce in general desktop and interent use since i wouldn't have dual channel? so basicaly im asking what is memory bandwidth used for??

thanks

I have seen very large increases in FPS with Call of Duty running my Dual Xeons at 204x13=2652mhz compared to when I was running the exact same setup running at 166x16=2656mhz. My 3d 2003 and my Call of Duty FPS was 10-15% higher when the FSB was higher.
The system is much faster at video editing when it comes time to render out a AVI file.
This system running Dual Channel only increases my FPS by about 5% but increasing the FSB 38mhz increased my speed 10-15%. Sorry its not more scientific but those were real time noticable speed changes. I am now running 213x13=2769mhz 4 sticks of PC3500 in Dual channel.

As said, games, photoshop, anything that uses large amouts of memory really.
