View Full Version : Multiplier does not go high enough (need 13.5 X)

I have an MSI 6163 Pro with a new Celeron 900 (I had a 700 overlclocked to like 866 before).

It seems however that the multiplier only goes to 8 X multiplier.
8 X 66 only works out to just over 500, and I'm not too interested in underclocking.

I have the latest bios available from MSI's website.

I'm sure this will overlock fine, because I had the PC working at around 1200 MHZ. I set the FSB to 133, and that's what came up. Unfortunately it wasn't very stable. I tried upping the voltage from 1.75 (default) to as far as 1.9 but it would just halt on POST after a while.

Setting the FSB to 100 gets me 900 MHZ. Setting the FSB to anything * 66 FSB gets me just what it is supposed to.. so unfortunately I cannot even run the CPU at the correct setting.

Now that I think about it, I don't know how my 700 worked at 866. 8* 83 is only 664.
Is the multiplier unlocked? How can I lock it, or raise it past what my motherboard supports?
Do you have any suggestions? How can I get my mainboard to register a higher multiplier ?

The 700 you had (if it is a cely) has a multiplier of 10.5 (10.5*66.6=700).

The CPU you have now works with a 100Mhz FSB (9*100=900)

So everything is fine.

**EDIT** If you had an unlocked CPU you really don't want to lock it :D

If you find any unlocked versions of either of my CPU's,
I will trade you mine and give you a hundred dollars.

If your cpu is unlocked you can call Cliff Anderson at Intel corporate security and he will help you with that problem :) Just kiddin - but don't try to sell it on Ebay or they will be on your tail in no time.

YOU HAVE A UNLOCKED CELERON?

Don't worry about the mainboard not supporting your multiplier, that takes place in the chip anyways.

But if its bugging you go get a bios update at the MSI site.

Yup, I realize the mistake now.
I had forgotten the new celerons had move to a 100 FSB.

I have successfully overclocked it to 1127mhz.

Thanks all.
