would a quad xeon 700/1mb cache system fold any good? try to think of any other possible reason to get one, along with doing some other things.

yeah it probably folds pretty well. I have had a p3 550 and a p3 933 and they have done very well compared to my expectations. worth running folding on without bigpackets, anyway. plus it would make a great little workstation or server.

I did the math. About 900 to 1000 ppw(quad 4 700). I was looking at those on ebay too.
Decided to build a 3.06 HT. It will double that easy.
If you can pick one up for under 300, I would be a good deal.

i work at intel, so i have a 3.6 ht w/1mb cache already. then i have two more eng samples i havent built yet.

i just like the quads for the novelty :)

i might think about it later

hell if you work for intel go for a xeon p4 based setup, easily 4-5000 points a week.

unfortunately, they only give out prescotts. hopefully in the future if i beg enough we can get some xeons. i will probably be investing in some p4 xeons soon though :)

You mean they give free presscots? Not a bad deal. What do you get like a bag of 20 every so often? haha

no just one a year, of usually the best chip out.

a bag of 20 would be useless, unless i could sell em lol
