View Full Version : could my 800EB has any problem?
how hot should i expect from a Pentium III 800EB running under a Globalwin FOP-38?
Mine= 40ºC iddle. isnt that too much hot?
i think its too hot for not being oced. make sure your heatsink is sitting flush with the chip. also make sure your using the right voltage.
the right voltage would be 1.65V but my BIOS can set it to at least 1.70V. Its also well sit.

remove the MB and hold it up to the light to see if you can see light between the CPU and HS.
Are you using any thermal grease?
its sitting perfectly and have also applied thermal grease. i dont know, maybe its the temp inside the case: the mobo is about 30 degrees.
yea my temps fell a few degrees when i got a new case. it could partially be your motherboard too. if its an older motherboard the chips might run hotter. are your system temps high too?
the system u mean chipset, HD, all other stuff? well, everything is pretty normal i guess. the only three things i can actually measure is the CPU, GPU and mobo temps. south bridge is not that hot by measuring with my finger. ill try some modifications in my case to be sure about that.
with the same proccessor and the same heatsink and fan i had the same temperature as you.. (yeap exactly 40*C) This happened when i gave the cooler electricity from the motherboard. I must buy an adapter now. Power your fan from the PSU and maybe you will have idle 33*C (as i used to).. bye

Yes that is running too hot for a FOP-38. It could be either your Motherboard's CPU temperature sensor not reading accurately or your room and ambient temperature is high. Is your room hot? it will depend quite a bit on the room temperature. Or you can take the sides of the computer case. Oh one more thing, I own Abit BE6-2 mobo and I recently tried the Abit SH6. With the same setup, i.e. same CPU, same cooler, same room and ambient temperature, I get 32C idle with the Abit SH6 and 23.5C with the Abit BE6-2. The cooler I used is Alpha P3125 with the case completely off on both setup, LOL.... I will try to get take a photo and post it here.
its probably because the temp inside the case. ill check out that. the fan is powered by PSU already and im thinking on reverse its direction to suck air away from the heatsink - belaive it can works when into a hot ambient. anyway, 800EB seems to be a hot processor, isnt it?

It should not be that hot, If you can get 2 case fans it would help leave the PSU fan set up the way it is then if your CPU HSF blows down put the fan in the upper rear of your case so that it blows the cool air in straight to your CPU HSF this will help if those temps are correct then install the fan in the front of your case so that it blows the warmer air out.
