This mess is courtesy of my wife. When confronted about this her defense was that she saw her laptop fall and she was half asleep and she caught by the power cable.
I got it to work but I have no idea how long it will last. But at least it works and all it cost me was about four hours of time and about $10. Just please, take care of your laptop!
oops..............
:D lol, that was nice. I'll have to remember not to do that. Do yall know if it's bad to pull the power cord out when the lappie is still on? I do it all the time when I need to go to the living room. Just unplug it and off I go............I'm assuming it doesn't do anything. I know that if I plug it back in I have to restart it to restart the Speedstep but that's about it.

hmm so thats what my laptop looks like naked... i have yet to find an exscuse to take it apart...
how think was the thermal goop they used on the HS, could you apply some AS5 and it still be able to touch the HS
any thing else to be played around with inside of the laptop?
i have a new version of that laptop... it doesn't have any parrallel ports or legacy ports...
ouchies.... I trip over my power cord all the time.... maybe I should take more care....
nah.... thats why I got accadental damage warranty... If that happened to me then at least I might get a new mobo with a different pll chip so i can oc this thing....

Update: Don't forget to plug the fan back in :bang head I forgot to and when she went to play a game it turned off (thank goodness!) So just a headsup.
Iced:
There was hardly any thermal paste on the heatsink at all. I put some AS3 on it and it seems fine. Also the way mine was setup there are three screws that push the HS down on the processor and it seemed to do a good job. The fins around the fan were clogged with dust so I cleaned it out while I had it apart.
The only thing I could see making use of in the laptop is an empty space opposite the battery where they would put a floppy drive. I don't know what you would do with it but that's really the only free space in it.

yea i have noticed the floppy drive missing, i was thinking about maken it a bay for storage, or make mount a switch on it to kill off some on the LEDs.... though i m wondering if a 2nd hard drive would fit there...

if a 2nd hd did fit in there how would you hook it up?
i just got a 40 gig lappy drive, yet the 1 i have is prefectly good
60 gigs of space on this would be nice!
the mobo bios has room for it, but im not sure if its physically possible.

Well, at least you wife has someone like you to fix your computer when she breaks it. Most people would have just bought a entire new computer.

i would probably get one of these
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/cablesonline/182dr44la40d.html
and i would go one step further and make it so that i can turn the power off to the second hard drive this way when i go mobile i can turn the power off to it, while i was in there i would also make a power switch to turn off the cd-rom drive...

^ I have a similar problem. Though not from abuse. ITs just a poor design because the conector wasn't being held in by anything more then the soldered conections.

Your wife reminds me of my sister. Here is my story of laptop disasters(or more like mishaps). One day my sis grabbed my dads old laptop by the screen crack... smack... laptop hits the floor the screen falls off and chips part of the laptop. Amasinly it still worked but sometimes the screen doesn't turn on and u have to wiggle the cables to make it work. This same sister also crashed another laptop somehow by doing something (I have no idea she said she pressed some keys) and when I came back and found the laptop frozen I rebooted it and get an error saying the windows files were corrupted. But that problem was fixed with a reinstall. Just wondering did all the keys fall out when you took apart the laptop or did they stay in ( I had too replace three keys on the laptop my sister dropped... those things are a pain to put in)
Edit: At first I thought she gave you the laptop and all the pieces. Lol.
So did u just have to rewire it or did you end up having to replace some parts?
Thats plain horror
my laptop once fell from a chair about 60cm high. It knocked the front plate off my cd bay but i re-attached it with superglue :D. No further damage except some scratches, so i was very happy.

I got to say that it even though the power cord looks bad, it looks ok once you put it back.
