Probably not. Basically all laptops use a proprietary motherboard, many of them didn't feature socketed processors until the last three to five years. If you're lucky enough to have a socketed processor of some sort, the only upgrade option you likely have would be the same generation of chip at a faster speed.

If it came with a K6-233, then you might be able to slap in a K62-500. If it came with a Pentium II 233, you might be able to slap in a Pentium II 366. Those are your typical upgrade types. Some of the PII laptops came with a processor module called the MMC and MMC-2. The MMC-2 modules would extend from a P2/300 all the way to a P3/850. A few types of Dells, HP's and IBM's came with these, to include my aging Thinkpad 600E. I was able to rip out the slow PII/300 and replace it with a PIII/750 for about $70.

Best thing you could do is find the model number of your laptop and Google for options.

The only other option you would have for upgrades would be to upgrade the memory. It's usually as simple as unscrewing a small panel underneath the laptop and snapping in a couple new memory modules.
