ok heres what u do: u have to disasemble ur pc but its worth it trust me, (turn it off first ) take off the side panels, then behind the cpu on the right side panel location make a mark where the center of the cpu is on the case it self and the panel both need same hole in them if that makes sense then take out the mb ,cut out a hole large enough for an 80mm fan thru the case and thru the side panel (on the right side panel)you may want to at this time make holes for mounting the fan or routing the wires then vacum it all out very well very very well all metal shaving need to be removed from inside the case once its done reasyble ull be amazed i had tons of problems with heat my cpu stayed at 55 c constenly now i happy to say my cpu runs at 42 c at idle and 45c at full load (gamming and such) and i havent put a fan on the hole i made yet i know this sounds weird but i was bored and it works the front of the cpu is getting cooled why not the back too
i attached som pics if they help

Interesting idea! I've done this exact mod to a case containing a P3 1ghz system, and it made no difference, temperature-wise, at all. However a case with low ventilation would probably get a boost from this- at the least it looks way cool.:D

Remember- if you use an AMD system, the temp you get is from the in-socket thermistor, not the actual chip itself. You very possibly might be cooling the thermistor, not the CPU.

i had the same idea... kinda did the same thing... except for i didnt cut anything,

i was told that if i put a fan on the back blowing on it, the thermistat would give wrong readings....

i had readings of tbird 1gig at 1.46 at like 36 full load.... if i remember right....

i would do that my i have a nice window and don't want to ruin it

My guess is you're cooling more thermistor than board. Looks nifty, though.

Actually, you are definately cooling the thermistor. There is an article somewhere on the front page about that. Joe did some tests and the cpu was statistically cooler with the backdoor fan than without.

For the life of me, I couldn't find the article though. Sorry. :(

I have tried this, and i does reduce temps, measured by a compunurse, but not by that much, a degree or two maybe.
