View Full Version : help! How to remove the bluestone inside the rad
I found some bluestone exsit inside my rad when I washed the rad using tap water, what should I use to remove that and won't leave any dreg inside? vinegar or soap? or ammonia?
bluestone contains vitriol + copper, so its PH should be above 7?
I don't know what Bluestone is. I would just wash it out with some soapy water, and rinse it throughly afterwards.
sorry to cause misunderstanding, it is sulfated-copper---CuSo4, which will change blue when absorb water.
picture would be nice so I know aware of it, and some of us don't really know what is Bluestone is so picture is a good idea of showing us what your problem is

fill the rad with white vineagar for a while, then flush with distilled water. that usually cleans things out nicely

Pic of CuSo4 is above.......
I ever tried vinegar, but it will seems to dissolve the tin metal inside the tank of the HC.
First, how did that get in your rad?
Vinegar will not eat away the metal. At least not enough to care. Lots of people use viegar to wash out their heater cores. Here is a recent thread on the subject:

It should be a new one so I dont know where the CuSo4 is from.
try to put alittle vinegar on the tin-covered edge of the tank of the HC, you will find it very easy to dissolve tin, and pls keep in mind tin do exsit inside the HC. AFter clearing my HC with vinegar I used the tampon to touch the tank inside, the tampon got dirty with dissolved tin
Well I don't know what will work. Search around for cleaning cores. Maybe you will find something that will work. At this point it just sounds like you need a new one.

I have mentioned 2 new HCs(one has CuSo4 and another has been cleaned with vinegar but not for removing the bluestone), which maybe let u think I have found some way to remove it. I have try to rush the tape water to force the dirty out, but I never make sure it is gone completely or not

CuSO4 dissolves in water. Just run your loop through a tap and out the drain. It is likly in your waterblcok too so you might wand to flush it out too though if you get your rad cleand out the rest should just dissolve in the water in the loop.

Well with the block being the hottest part of your system it is the least likly to have the bluetone collect in it. That stuff isnt the most quickly dissolving material in the world maby a couple hrs circulating in a pot after some flushing out of the system with warm water. Over night to be safe. CuSo4 dissolves 1:5 with water so get most of it out and you should be safe. Dont know if there is some kind of reaction in your system that would make more later though. Just dont have too hot a water it could hurt the pump and tubing.
Do you have any kind of additive in the water that could be causing theis.
