P5 I dunno. Me feeling is that M$ is trying with Intel to mess up amd. Sorry for my mistake.
Thanks

Pentium 5 will be dothan based. The closest thing to the Pen5 is Prescott 2.0 which was released 4 days ago. I just got mine. They are the new 600 series with 2MB of cache

Dude I am not saying this to be rude, but I think you should get back with your parents. When you are away from them at a young age you will see how usefull they are.
hey now, i said my source which is a friend. i still live with my parents...and up their electric bill every chance i get

sweet how much did that set you back?
newegg has the 6XX series http://images10.newegg.com/UploadFilesForNewegg/intel6xx/index.htm

From what I've been reading (I'll try to post my source again soon) there will be no P5.. just will go back to the original Pentium name, w/ extra subtitle i.e. "Pentium Extreme Edition"

Not really what they are going to do is use PR names like what AMD does

Like what intel is already doing? Just say "pentium 840" instead of "Pentium 5 840" (hypothetically?)

No, Tejas is cancelled. We won't be ramping up to 5 Ghz for a LONG time....
P5 should be dual cores (Smithfield might be labelled P5).. Later, Intel will probably incorporate Dothan like technology.. Higher IPC, lower power consumption, etc.
I think AMD should get their act together.. they have a real shot at taking a serious lead on Intel.. If they would just make their own chipsets... or get someone to make a stable line for their motherboards...
AMD rules the roost when it comes to IPC... When these companies go dual core, a higher number IPC will be critical for the performance crown. AMD A64's are very close to Dothan in terms of power consumption... and clock per clock, kick Dothan's ass with 1/4 the cache.
With two cores so close to each other, cooling is essential. Higher clocks will probably be harder to achieve without some serious work on Intel's part.. meanwhile AMD got that down already.
I don't really buy into Cell technology. The need for so many cores isn't there yet.. and the 4 Ghz clock speed means little to nothing. In fact, two cores should be sufficient for most needs... There is no need for 8 cores unless programs have extreme amounts of threads... which doesn't happen too much.. not just because its not coded that way.. because its not necessary. It's why many people think Sun is going the wrong route with so many cores. No one really needs that...

yes pretty, much the whole lineup for mid 05, an 06 will consist of dual cores, from laptops, and then to the server enviroment.
cooling is essential, but the dual cores will have less voltage leak, and run at less voltage then the prescotts. so with that, and the lower clock speed...yea you are right, once we aim at the higher speeds, we will get those temp issues again. hopefully with some newer goodies being added, we will over come that.
moore's law has been guiding us for a long time...but, there is eventually a limit....which leads to the new direction of improving the chips in other capabilities, lower power usage, etc.
i agree on the cell technology. and, i am still wondering if they can even pull it off in time on the ps3, just all the that is involved in a new architecture it doesnt happen overnight.

...rip the ps3 chip out and mod it for a pc...if only it could happen
