Im stuck in HL2, at the prision where Alex tells you there is a lot of guards coming and you have 3 turrets, and there or just hordes of guys. Whats the best stradegy? Ive tried putting the turrets in a triangular formation, tried putting all the turrets in a jail cell (when they throw a grenade in there, you = screwed) How did you pass this part?

Hmmmm, this happens twice I believe...I presume your on the 2nd time, what i did was shack myself up in the room where you get the turrets, I placed the turrets at the door entrances and everytime they got knocked over id pick em up again.....took me a couple of trys i think but in the end it wasnt too hard....
I just got to that part last night. I used the same stratagey as mat1314. I can't believe I am almost al the way throught this game. I think it needed to be longer. Oh well, leave 'em wanting more.

xTrEmEoVrClOcKr, If you do a search youll find I had a problem with this part too. I actually stopped playing it for a couple of weeks because I was so frustrated. I found that the easiest thing to do was put the turrets in a Jailcell and periodically throw 'Nades out. Also make sure you pick the turrets up fast if they get knocked down. Also try placing them more towards the entrance of the cell and you stand in the back... I thought it was the hardest part of the whole game...

I also found this a very tough part and although I got through on easy, I could not pass on hard. I thought I solved this a very clever way only to find that others had done the same thing. Use the gravity gun to build a tower of boxes so you can climb to the second level. Place the turrets in the landing between floors so they look out on both levels. Soldiers will spawn right in front of you but they are easily taken out before they can knock over a turret. Once I did this, I did not die and did not lose a turret.
I have also heard of others who went back and carried an extra turret with them from the previous part of the level so they had four or even five turrets.

Mmmm, i heard a lot of people found this hard...I played on normal difficulty however I really had no trouble with it...
I played it on normal first, had a very hard time with it, then redid it on hard and it went smooth..:p
Best strategy for that part is to carry one turret with you from the fight before (eg. hold it on front of you all the way through the level). That way i had 4 turrents in that situation, (i redid it, carried all 3 from the last fights with me which was real fun), so i was able to cover every entrance they could get through. For the rest its just a matter of running around, picking the turrets up again and sometimes blasting a guy wth the shotgun.

One of the sleazier ways (the way I got through it) that I read about and tried was to turn the turrets around and put them back where I got them, then hide in the empty locker.
They blast anyone that walks into the little corridor, and anyone that gets by get blasted in the face with the shotgun.
Quick, easy, and not all that satisfying. Effective though.

I got in one of the cells with one of the turrets and switched between the gravity gun and shotgun. If a nade came in, I would throw it back with the GG, and if a soldier came by, I would blast him with the SG.

I just wound up using the grav gun to stack boxes and barrels to cover one entrance near the unlimited SMG ammo chest.
I then set up the three turrets to cover the opposite entrance and I crouched down between the boxes and turrets right next to the ammo chest.
That way I could just shoot whoever came into view, reload on ammo when I got low and nobody was able to see me from behind as I blocked the view with the boxes.
Any turrets that got knocked over where right in front of me so it was easy to use the grav gun to pick them up again :)
Of course then the manhacks came, destroyed the boxes and...well I did just make it out with 5 health, but I made it out ;)
i setup turrets like this:

the turrets are all close to you so you can pick them up w/o much trouble and all entrances are covered.

I just pick up one of the turrets and run around like mad while the turrets shoot the guards. Worked for me.

i cornered myself in a cell with a turret gun and mainly tossed nades out and crowbared flying things :)
I did not have too much trouble here, but it was still a little tricky :) . I had the same strategy as squads for the most part, but I also put boxes on as many entrances as I could and also put boxes/barrels on three sides of the turret to try to keep it level. As long as they did not throw a gren I was fine. :)

I found it to be very easy with the proper positioning. First of all, I built a box tower to get to the second level....but I couldn't just get to the second level anywhere, I had to go up in the darkened room on the side by the computer control panel looking thing. Take the turrets up there and set them up. If you had some furniture from the area right before entering this area, you could use that and barrels to block off the entrances from certain ways to make it even easier. I used stuff to make it so that all of the bad guys would have to maneuver and filter in through the room with the unlimited ammo box. As soon as they would get to a point where they could fire on me up on the second level, the turrets could also shoot them. This also made it so that they couldn't get into a strategic position to toss grenades up at me. Was very very easy. That hardest part was getting up to the second level there hehe.
I got in one of the cells with one of the turrets and switched between the gravity gun and shotgun. If a nade came in, I would throw it back with the GG, and if a soldier came by, I would blast him with the SG.
i did almost the exact same thing, i stood behind a wall for partial cover with my sg out, and the turret in front of me. every time a combine ran in, i would let loose a shotty shot into his chest, and every time a nade knocked the turret over, i would pick it back up with the gg
i, um, just let the nades hit me...haha. couldn't afford to give up my cover
but i passed this part on my second try
I cowered in the cell and actually crouched partially under the bench... I HELD THE TURRET THE WHOLE TIME and the turret would help sheild from gernade explosions and the whole time I only got shot twice as the turret sheilded me from the bullets...
I have also heard of others who went back and carried an extra turret with them from the previous part of the level so they had four or even five turrets.
This is probably the easiest and most effective solution I've seen to date. It was even featured in the latest edition of PC Gamer. Next time I play through, I'm definetly trying it. Psst, psst, you should too xTrEmEoVrClOcKr.
