I personally buy ASUS boards because of all the added features for a few $'s more. Here is a link to Toms hardware to which shows they are all really closely matched in performance.
TOM'S HARDWARE GEFORCE 3 ROUNDUP (http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q3/010709/index.html)

NO! Absolutely not. Inno3D, PNY, and e-VGA are real crappy brands. Virtually all others are fantastic, with Absolute Multimedia leading the pack, followed shortly thereafter by Asus, then Gainward. The others have problems, like inadequate cooling (Leadtek's RAMsinks just spread heat), and standard cooling (Elsa's GF3 is identical to the nVidia reference model, hardly an improvment). Visiontek is certainly the best bang for the buck, it can hold it's own against the big boys (Visiontek's are actually the best overclockers of all), and they're cheap. The only downside is that they, too, look just like nVidia's reference model, no added heatsinks (Which can be easily remedied with the addition of a chopped Pentium II heatsink and a Slot-1 or Slot-A heatsink split down the middle for RAMsinks).

Edit: PowerColor is another of the crap brands.

Definitely go with the ASUS or the OCZ...the ASUS is great cause you get all sorts of extras, including those 3D-glasses(not great, but fun to have ;) )

Word 'round the campfire is that OCZ has some problems to iron out.

I'd say they fall in to an intermediate catagory, not quite the best, but only because of some minor problems.

I would take a look at the Gainward GeForce3. I just got mine via FedEx on Friday and I love it! Being that I only upgrade peices every year and half, this video card will last me for a long time!

2D is fine, a bad spot for some GeForce3 cards I have read. I can't compare the 2D performance, the only other AGP card I have owned is a Voodoo3 3000. Like Shalamahoohoo said earlier, I love my Gainward so much I take it out at night!

Also ordered some Artic Silver II with it... I didn't think that would make such a difference. Saw temps drop immediately! Now, do I use it on the G3 card?

I would, and did. I took the orb off of the card and it "did" have paste under, cover less than half of the GPU. Kinda sad.

If you are looking for a card based on performance, i have seen quite a few reviews on a ton of geforce3's and they all seem to have about the same performance all around. only miniscule differences are seen between the boards, so u should look for a board that fits your needs not on performance, but more software, cooling, and features, because performance is the same throughout.

Hope that help.

How easy was it for you to take the orb off? Did you cover the GPU with Artic Silver II, similar to what you do on a CPU? Or did it have a "dye" on it like the CPU does?

I just want some more information before I get into it. Thanks.

It looks similar to a chipset on a mobo. I covered it and thats its. I'm not the brightest of the bunch so you might not want to take my advice. example: look at my name

I still say go with the Asus...and for cooling, I have the blorb and blue heatsinks on my ram(i have the Hercules, all blue card). I took them both off, over the weekend, since I got myself some arctic silver epoxy...the blorb had the white stuff, but the ram just had really thin glue over the entire bottom. I've replaced that with arctic silver epoxy, but haven't managed to get any higher OCs, I guess I'll just have to stick with my current(in sig). I just say the OCZ because it comes with the blorb AND copper heatsinks, so I figuired it would be better.

I'll soon find out how the OCZ Titan3 does. I got confirmation today that it was shipped. I've seen a couple reviews that claim it's the fastest video card in the world. My second choice would be the Gainward model.

LOL! At least you are honest. Does anyone have any recommendations for this? Hate to kill a pricey video card.

dont know if im too late here but the morpheus is outstanding. 2 of my friends both have 1.4 athys with 512mb ddr one has an epox mobo and the other has a soyo. They bothe have geforce 3s one has a morpheus the other has an msi The one with the morphues gets 400-600 more 3dmarks than the other.

i would strongly recommend you the Gigabyte one, dunno y pplz doesn't use it here, but it rockz!!
see my sig and u'll see how good this card is. eventhough it doesn't have a ramsink, and it only come with a blue orb, but i can still able to o/c it very nicely.:p

Zeke, those Blue Orbs are easy to remove and install. They're only held on with two spring loaded "push pins". There are basically two types of hold down pins. With the type that usually come with the Blorb, just push down on the pin from the front to release it and then push it out from the back side by pressing on it with a finger. The other type of pins require you to use needle nosed pliers to compress the barbs of the pin on the back side before removing it. Once the cooler is off and all cleaned up, just apply a thin even coating of thermal paste across the whole face of the GPU chip and reinstall. No problem.
