is it possible to simply cut one of my psu fan's wires?

i have a dual fanned thermaltake 420w. i've recently replaced the intake fan with another 80mm, but it didn't help with the noise level, but increased it i think.

now i just want to remove the bottom intake for good.

i'm wondering if leaving the black and red wires cut and without anything attached will work, cause last time i accidently cut a case fan's wire, the entire rig wouldn't boot.

if nothing is shorting out then nothing will be different except that the fan won't spin...
