Anyone here RMA'd a HD to Seagat? My two newly acquired 15K SCSI drives have aquired a nasty clicking, so I think its time to RMA them. Can anyone comment on how fast they return them etc?

Standard industry practice (back when I was in the industry) was that we either shipped stuff back to you via the same speed carrier that you shipped it to us.
I'm betting that's still the way it is. If you need it in a hurry, I'd call them and make some sort of similar request.

Of course they also probably would give you a cross ship if you'll give them a credit card number...? Seagate usually treats their SCSI customers like gold...

I RMA'ed a 200gb drive before. It's all pretty standard. I called on the phone for an RMA and it was a woman who was very difficult to understand, maybe ousourced, but everythign went pretty smoothly. Took about 2 weeks for the whole deal.

I worked for a regional hardware distributor that you've never heard of--they're now out of business. For a brief time I worked in returns (the guy who was there quit). It was, quite literally, h@$%. I worked with companies like Asus, DFI, Gigabyte, WD, Seagate, etc. and their returns people day in and day out.

:D

Good luck with your drive. I recommend calling their customer service to negotiate the terms of shipping and RMA procedures as other people here have recommended. Be sure you get a tracable carrier (I'd recommend NOT going with USPS), and to ship in real hard drive boxes. Often folks like Seagate will send them to you. To be honest I always keep a couple around from when I bought drives--just in case one fails!

I've never RMA'd anything to Seagate...but it took about 5 months and a dozen e-mails for them to send my rebate

I LOVE the Seagate Warranty in Canada.

First, unlike Maxtor, you cannot check the warranty status online. So you gotta call a THIRD party company outsourced by Seagate.

I called them, told my Serial number, they gave me my RMA number.
I told em can I drop it off to them? They said sure, since they are about 5 min away from me.

Dropped it off, they told me to wait, so they can see if they have a replacement in stock, and they did. So I got a replament in under 5 min.

Gotta love em for that. Talk about fast service.

Total cost: Drive for 5 min + 5 min to get a replacement. No packing required.

yeah I called them last night, it was a pain in the ass talking to the ladie, because her indian accent was hard for her to understand me and me to understand her. But I she said total RMA time is usually a week. They just wait to get the drive and then send out the replacement.
