Whats the best Geforce 2 and brand options out there?
I got a Geforce2 MX 200 atm with 64 megs ram but its kinda a cheesy card.
I don't wanna go spend 300$ for a Geforce3 sooo, with some new games coming out I am looking for the absolute best for around 150$ range.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I've got a Visiontek GeForce2 Ultra. I payed $195, but they're down to $182. Make sure you stick with a reputable brand, it's not wirth saving $20 for all the problems you may encounter with the lesser cards.
If you stay away from PNY, e-VGA, PowerColor, and Inno3D, you should be fine. Visionteks are the best band for the buck, bar none. They're very low priced, and they are the best overclockers of all brands.

generally the asus, elsa and leakteks are the best ones
and......inno3d sucks like crap
never get it
Yes, what the other people who posted said. Save up or wait until the prices come down on the Ultras. In addition to the brands already mentioned, Hercules makes some good GF2 cards too, but they tend to run a few bucks more. I know folks with both Vision Tec and Leadtec Ultra cards and they have been real happy. In the mean time, why is your MX card cheesey? If you put a fan on the heatsink, use some new and improved detonator drivers, and then overclock it, those MX cards will perform pretty good. Just not as fast as an Ultra or a GF3.

Its cheesy cause I have a 1.4 Ghz Tbird with alot of crucial pc21000 ram( 512 megs) and the card is a 175/143 and even with this nice fast antlon I only get 3dbench2001 of 1397.
I can only bump it up to about 200/160 before artifacts start in, I wouldnt spend 5$ to put a fan on this key coaster!
Running all the new VIA hardware drivers, have the latest Det 4 drivers 21.81@1397=KEY COASTER!:)
But thanks for the suggestions

You're absolutly right. You really do need a new card. REALLY. With my old P!!! 500mhz and GF2 MX i got 1700 on 3dmark2001. (thats on 1024x768x32)
I think GeForce3's are well worth the $$$. Soooooo fast. :D

I would get Leadtek Geforce 2 ultra or Hercules (looks great with blorb :D ) Geforce 2 ultra. They are both very fast and overclock very well as they use high quality ram.

Spelling fixed:(
Well, first off, a MX will never do very well benchmarking in 3Dmark 2001, but it does sound like your card is a little lame too. My Hecules MX 32 meg card will post 2800+ points in 3Dmark2001 with it overclocked at 200/200 MHz. My system is a P-III 700 @ 1050 MHz with 256 meg of PC150 Kingmax RAM.

the best value for money is the gainward golden sample gf2pro.l..it has 4.5 ns ram and a pro core....meaning you could easily make it perform like an ultra.;....its 132 dollars at newegg....really nice.......

get ASUS card's!!!!!!!!!!
or elsa!!!!!
Olebass...try running 3dmk2001 set at 16-bit, not 32...that will up the score considerable...also check your bios settings, they can have alot to do with performance...
Batboy, I have a GF2MX that will do 2818 and thats STOCK...and its a generic no name to boot...I'd say that opposed to an Ultra at about 200 bucks, or a GF3 at 300+ that the lowly GF2MX does well enough for my money...:D :D
Olebass, I'd definately recommend that you dig deeper before you blow alot of money on a new card...that one should do alot better unless it actually IS defective...don't give up yet...

I had enabled fast writes and such but my system became unstable at times.
while it was activated it did not improve preformance alot anyways.
I have uninstalled removed hardware, formatted reinstalled windows installing only the best drivers( ViA 4.33 det 4 ect) drivers off a clean install and have resulted in the same benchmarks.
Sisoft gave me a good rating for the card but 3dmark 2001 still results in 1400 ish marks and thats with it pushed up to 200/160 at the default 175/143 card clocks I get only 1100 in 3d2001.
All the other benchmarks (cpu/memory/harddrive/ect) run at normal or above bench for a 1.4 ghz so its just this dang video card.
As the tests, most go by 32 bit scoring to determine comparison so I kept it 32 bit to be accurate of those getting 3-6k marks:(
Orginally I had the Video/Lan/sound sharing irq 11 along with 3 acpi steering pci controllers and all the USB.
I had 1400 3d mark then as well.
I managed to split up( after much frustration) the sound video and lan into different IRQ, so now there is only one device+ one acpi steering to each IRQ.
The mark remained the same though:(
I think its just this card:)
Sorry to hear that Olebass, I will tend to think that people are not digging deep enough to root out the problem and then go out and buy new because they can't think of any solution but replacement...there are, of course, lemons out there that are really defective and deserve to be discarded...Where did you get the GF2MX200, any possibility of return??? Too bad, dude.:(
Can't seem to give it up....what Mobo are you using, and what do your bios settings look like??? It just FEELS like something is set wrong and I gotta keep picking...not to question your abilities...it seems sometimes that we can't see the forest for the trees...is there something here that has been overlooked...AGP settings, apeture size, 4way interleave enabled, are you at 2x or 4x...fast writes should be disabled with the new 21.81 drivers...Sorry for dragging this on n on, but I can't stop picking...  :D

Motherboard is a Biostar M7VIB-AGP set to 4x
I have tried 64/128/ and 256 megs texture ( I have 512 megs ram) and with fast writes/read/write on and off.
The card cannot really be returned as it came with the base system I purchased, it said it was a geforce2mx 64 megs and that it is, so I can't really complain to the company :)
Theres alot of bios settings I do not understand but most bios sites don't help in those areas, especially when every motherboard runs a different setup:(
I tried 16 bit instead of 32 bit in 3d mark 2001 and got 2009 score. Still way low really for a card thats been bumped up to 200/160 in a 1.4 ghz amd.

Your problem is that it's a GeF2 MX 200 card.
The MX 400 flavour is far superior. PIII 600(not oc'd), GeF2 MX 400 64 meg (not oc'd) by Hercules, and DetXP drivers, 2615 3DMark2001 score......I cant OC my cpu, as the mobo's naff, and clocking the card didn't produce much improvement.
Don't forget that you can get lots of improvement in your benchmark scores by tweaking the vid card settings and by installing newer Detonator3 drivers. Ok, nevermind... I just reread your system info and you're already using the 21.81 drivers. However, the newer drivers are optimized for DirectX8, what version are you using?
DAGO, don't make me hurt you for having a stock generic MX that has similar benchmark scores as my tweaked Hercules card. You must have a faster system than me, probably an AMD Athlon or something. What vid card settings are you using?
Batboy...I am running a system that is not OC'ed at all...I got the Abit board because I knew that eventually I would give it a shot...Info now in my sig...As for card settings, I have a helluva time remembering exactly what they're set at...I have piddled about with this system since I built it July 4th...My score went from around 1950 to the 2818 of late...mostly due to improved drivers, figuring out what BIOS settings work best for my rig (took alot of reading and finding what actually works on this beast).Running the benchmark at the lower setting helped quite a bit, but the drivers gave it the biggest bump...
So what are you running???
Oh, n fear not...when I get enough for a better HSF n RAM I will see what this 1 gig Tbird can do...:D
Olebass, I fear the beast may indeed be retarded...all I can suggest at this point is to try advancing the spark...Sorry guy...:(

I am indeed running the Directx 8.0a
On a other note I gotta say I am totally disgusted with Biostars support.
I sent em a email saying, no where does it show what pci slots are tied into what IRQ settings( before I managed to finally get ACPI to split em up by holding a can of coke over the motherboard, such drastic measures).
They replied, well just move the cards around.
I replied I tried this and all combos, seems they are linked to one...
He replied( no joke) move em around some more...
I replied just give me the dang info please...
He replied does moving it around not work.?
I mean REALLY.
So then I notice just a few days ago they updated the BIOS for my motherboard...
I goto look and the BIOS I had was VIB0542b the new one was VIB 0912B.
Quite a difference so I think ok they never setup the new bios when they built this machine for pretesting. NP I loaded in the new bios.
No where on the site does it have a revision history, the only thing I know for sure is that the new bios *udates monitor bug* which I seen no differnce, what about all the BIOS before this, what did they fix!
I have quirks about companys that have really crappy support:(
that card runs stable a 3.3 volts...below 3.1v it causes the 3d accelerator to hang/error...some motherboards use its power regulator to supply the voltage..if this is the case...no 16.2 watts to the chipset and same problem if you got an agp volt setting in the bios ...or jp ... pump it up
