View Full Version : Increasing core voltage on a 6800 series GPU?

I edited my BIOS on my Quadro FX 4000 to have core voltage of 1.6v instead of 1.4 (1.5v was not available) and it works, its just unstable. I can run games, 3ds Max and such for about half an hour at default speeds until the programs crash. I did the detect optimal frequencies in the OC panel of the detinators and it said my card liked 468/1246. I tried those speeds and I got no artifacts, but after about 10 minutes of use, the app crashes. I put my card back at 1.4v and its fine. I have an NV Silencer 5 and i did a little mod for better cooling with it. I know that these chips are very sensative to voltage. Is there any other step to take other than increased cooling and increased voltage for these cards?

you dont want to increase voltage with a NV silencer... those things are pathetic...
what are your temps like? you really shouldn't have apps crash, it should just throttle. get a new bios and try 1.5v, that's the max i'd go on air (if temps are around 70c max)

Temps never went above 58c at 1.6v. At 1.4v my temps stay at 46c-49c idle and dont go above 55c load. I'm going to try another BIOS.

U Could Try A Difrent Bios Editor And Try To Get A 1.5 Out Of It
Or U Could Try A Volt Hard Mod (jk)
Might Even Try Flashing Ultra Bios To It And Doing The Quadro Softmod To But Other Than That Ur Proibly Out Of Luck
Or U Could Just Admit That Ur 2000$ Card Is Compleatly Owned By My X850 And Stop Trying Lol (jk) Brandon

Maybe you could stop answering my threads and I'll do the same. If I wanted your input (or if you wanted mine), I would just call you... I need fresh ideas from other people here. If you try to answer my querry and do so that it appears complete (this one in particular is one I've already heard before, from you), that leaves little room for someone else's input...
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

At min you need better cooling if there is not a aftermarket a little AS and a high powerd fan on the stock heatsink would help. Looking for 1.5 would probibily be the best option. see the thread on flasing bios there is more than one program to work with.

My guess would be the board design can't support the increased voltage.
Like crimedog said the card should throttle if heat was the problem (not crash).
It could be your PSU, but I doubt that's the source.
