View Full Version : System colled to 1C... is it possible?

I have a friend that claims he can get his cpu (or case, not sure) temperature to 1C without water or liquid nitro cooling . I keep telling him that's it's not possible, but he keeps saying that I'm so stupid and that I'm clueless. I've been looking for a way that that can be done online for about 3 hours, but I haven't even come close to something that would work. I'm posting this question here because this is the last way that I can find out if this is possible. If it is, please tell me how. I know he wants to put foam over his HSF (a thermoengine, not the SK6, but the one that's almost as good...aluminum) to water-proof it, yet he claims he's not using a water cooling system (he just called me retarded because I asked him if he was trying to reduce noise) and he claims he's not using fans either. I'm completely dumbfounded as to how this is possible. I have been building OC'ed systems with crazy cooling solutions for 2 years and I know pretty much every trick in the book (I've built all of the examples in the Case Cooling tips section), yet I have no idea how his colling setup would work. If this is possible, and someone knows how, please explain it to me! Thanx!

sounds like he is using a peltier

He caims he's not using a peltier too! I think he is lying. I really want to find out what he's trying, I still don't get it.

hmm, he is lying, there is no way to get heat down to that, if you find out what he is doing tell us. Either he is lying or does magic

I can think of two things:
a fridge
a can of Cold spray, with that you can cool it down a bit more (Its used to determine electrical faults and to contract metal to ease bearing installation, temp of this stuff is -55C  )
Personaly I think he's going to put his box in the fridge, one guy got his (CPU) temps down to -17 that way.

he is talking crap IMO too unless.... if u select a temp sensor in MBM5 that isnt there,. u get odd readings, i had -6 celsius, and one at -32

I wouldn't doubt he is lying. He claims to have thought up something else that no one has thought up yet because he is a "genius". He says that he verified that it would work with a network tech. that I am good friends with so I'm going to ask him on monday what my friend is doing. I still think if he's really cooling down to 1C then he is using a water-cooled peltier chip, maybe dual-cooled, dual-peltiers. Who knows though. I think he's full of it. If anyone else can think up another way, please tell me!

Beats me why you really care about this "friend's" magic. If he really has thought up something "genius" he should show some proof and explain how it works instead of calling you names.
If Mr. Wiley Coyote really has come up with something new let us know. I doubt it though

It's just really bothering me. If you and your friend are constantly competeing over best performance/coolest comp. then you would probably care! I just want to prove that he is full of crap.

He says that he verified that it would work with a network tech.
Yeah, everybody knows that network techs are heat-transfer experts.
Similarly, I've come up with a non-surgical procedure to remove a co-worker's ailing gall bladder. Should we try it? Both my stockbroker and my plumber seems to think it would work . . .

My cpu can get down to 1C too. all you do is acidently spray a load of cold spray on to the temp probe and switch on.. My CPU was at 1C exactly!!!!
Not it was actually more around +30C mark put the temp probe was soo cold and then it got heated up to one degree by the CPU thats how he's doing it!!!
OR HE HAS A CRAP MOBO WITH RUBBISH TEMP SENSORS MAYBE HE COULD COME TO THE FORUMS AND TELL US MORE
! his computer is off and is near an open window in the wintertime with no heat or
2 He is lying
3 had a little to much to drink
4 comp's on but he put's out side in the snow.

Ice cubes anybody?

show him this page, then see what he has to say, i suppose he has unlocked his celeron as well?
Lemme see... no fans, no watercooling, and no pelt....
My guess... He's:
a) living in antarcita with the air conditioner on
b) he has his AC cooling his computer room to below freezing somehow.
I personally would have to go with b.

Send the guy here, I would love to ask him some questions on his "invention":D
Seems not to be possbile to me

lol... the only problem is that he says that he doesn't have this thing working yet, he fried his DDR the other day so he's ordering a new ram dimm. I know network techs aren't exactly true "genius's" (probably gonna get flamewd by some network tech...hehe), but this guy has built some pretty awesome custom cooling setups, and has been doing it for almost 5 years so he knows a ton about stuff like that.
And yeah, I bet he's lying too. Sometimes he'll do things like this just to **** me off, but his best friend (who I'm good friends with) said that he's not making it up and that, again, I'm an idiot. I'm gonna build a dual-peltier, nitro cooled system just to **** HIM off :D . well, maybe I'll just be the first to buy rockstar's "borg project" (don't know if anyone has seen it or not) and I'll just use that to **** him off :).

he's lting no question. It aint posible with standard air cooling

Its called a peltier.

sigh....why doesn't he just post how his "invention" works and what he's doing? liars today can't even lie in a convincing way
I am just as credulous of unsupported claims as anyone else. Question the unbelievable, but try to control the desire to say things that elicit flames guys.
Thanks

bah, it's possible to do without liquid nitrogen, water, or pelts....my guess is refrigeration...ask him about vapochill =p
Frodo Baggins
09-24-01, 04:03 PM
true, for some reason that passe dmy mind. Just buy a fridge, spray your stuff with anti-condensation spray, and chuck it in there

LNO2 (Liquid Nitrogen) can cool an Athlon to sub Zero temps and if cooled too far can crack the chip

The "Invention" as you call it is something u can buy, we only said that no one else had it that we knew. Also we mentioned that we were getting ALOT of fans.
That network tech didn't verify anything either, he only jokingly said to get a vacuum case.
Sulfur is over exaggerating just a bit!

Oh you shutup! People keep wasting their time in this forum for no reason because its not a big deal what we got and he is just making it one. I am trying to tell people that they already know what it is and its not a big deal. This thread keeps getting new posts and these people are just wasting their time.

Perhaps some of us do have time to waste...
And then there's always another reason..

Quite so. 80% of the time when I'm on here I'm at work waiting for the clock to make it to the magical point in time when I finally get to leave (speaking of which...this is my last post for now :) )

Ok, but I just wanted to say we using many fans and something else. You guys could read something more interesting, because you could all think of it in a flash.
No need to dwell on thinking of what it is, because you probably already thought of it.

Would71 your attitude to this subject is very negative what if this guy is not lying and he has come up with a good way to cool a cpu. If he comes here and tells us what he's done i'll beleive if it sounds possible.

09-26-01, 02:37 PM
hm
i dunno. sounds like some fans and pelts, or an AC unit maybe. possibly some ducting being done from the freezer perhaps.
i'd definately be interested to hear what he has going on.
hey Would71!
stuff a sock in it. this is why we call it a discussion forum. *nudge nudge grin*
btw... how goes your cold cube idea?

I could believe it...
No air, no water...there's still condensor cooling or using a fridge or maybe a freezer.

yeh guys, check this out!! :D :D
And with AIR cooling too.

all i did was turn the compensation down by 25c.
r0ckstarbob
09-27-01, 08:47 PM
whats that?
WyrmMaster
09-27-01, 08:58 PM
what, compensation? There is a setting in MBM to adjust the compensation for a sensor. Basicaly adjusts the value.
r0ckstarbob
09-27-01, 10:07 PM
*chuckles*
ooops
oh, you mean THAT compensation
:D :D :D

hmmm, i honestly cant think of how he is cooling this cpu if he is not using air, pelt, or water. would you perhaps enlighten me on how you are cooling this rig MMS_Trainer1?

Still...29 degrees with air cooling is damn good, how did you pull that off?? I only get like 32 C when first into windows with watercooling...
