I have been running my rig:

P4 2.8c @ 3.1
Corsair XMS-3200 512 LLPT (Crucial Ballistix 1024 PC4000s on way)
BFG 6800 GT OC 256
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe

All this on a Maxtor 80g 2MB Cache

I think I need to change my hardrive and have been looking into buying SATAs as a 160g SATA nowadays seems to be quite affordable.

My question is am I doing the right thing or should I just stick to what I got and just get another IDE for more sotrage?

If the SATA is the way to go whats the recommended brand now on the market?

Thanks

I'd say go for a newer maxtor SATA 250 or 300gb DM10.
It's the fastest 7200rpm drive on the market and can be had for round 180 which is a good price.

If your looking for awesome performance you can get a 74gb raptor and put your OS and games on it and use your 80 for backups...but those cost almost 3x per gb than the maxtor....

I went ahead and bought a 250gb hitachi because it's one of the quicker 7200 SATA drives and is the quietest HDD I've every owned.

i would keep what you got unless you are just itching for new..

the raptors are incredible sata drives.. but yor maxtor is also good ..

are you experiencing slow performance from it at all ??

just going from sata from ide isnt gonnna give you what you want to see.. a little better cpu optimization but as far as speed than you will have to look for that qaultiy in the drive .. which will lead you to a raptor or scsi..

i would get a raptor and use your 80 for extra stuff ..

I would definately replace taht thing. That 2mb cache definately has to go. With the amount that you spend on the rest of that system a new HD would pry give you the biggest overall performance gain for the best price. What is your budget?
