Hello people,

I got an nvidia geforce FX5200 and am thinking of upgrading... But first things first...

I have an NVIDIA geforce FX5200 on a p4p-800 deluxe mobo with 2.8 "c" clocked at 3ghz and 1gb corsair c2pt at about 220mhz. I know mild OC.

1. Is my video card holding me back from oc'ing? I think not but just curious

2. will I notice a significant difference if I upgrade my video card to lets say a 6600gt? I have an AGP slot right now and will want to upgrade to PCI-express in about a half year to a year. Is the difference so HUGE that 200 is worth throwing down for a 6600gt now? And I am able to spend around 200 for this card. And which 6600GT is the best to get? :bang head

Thanks for all your help

*FYI* Just read sticky, the one where it says is you got xxx to spend... Anyway, says the 9800PRO is actually the best card to get for a 150-250 dollar range since it can reach XT speeds. So how come people on the forum are recommenging the 6600GT? What do you guys think is the best card to get from 150-250??? Granted I am planning on doing a mild overclock.

1. No,Your video card is not holding back your cpu oc.
2. Yes you'll notice a big difference, I remenber when I switched from a fx5200 to my 9800pro and I never regreat it.

People here at the forums suggest the 6600gt because it's faster then the 9800pro or even an XT and it costs about the same, back some time ago you would have to pay a little extra for the agp version I don't know if it's still like that, but If you have the money definately go for it.

Definetly a Big difference. If you Look at Benchmarks at Toms, You will even see that a 9600XT will pull down 2-3 times More FPS than a 5200Ultra or not. Makes no difference. Theres a Killer difference Between the 5200U And Non And a 6600GT. At tomshardware.com on the right side of page hit the AGPcomparo IV it will List all the cards and scores.

You do Know, As i Sadly found out, Your going to need a new Proggy To go PCI-E. Very sad. A New PCI-E is going to cost me a mint someday Grrrrr. I Cant find a Mobo Thats socket 478 with PCI-E!!!!!! That Stinks for sure.

Goto the comparos and see Just How much your Card is holding back your gameing. Its Not holding back your overclock, But sure is Holding back your Gameing By ALOT!

and yes u wil notice a big dif in performance on 3d stuff like games but not as much in everything else like startup (windows stuff)

if u game in any 3d games u should get it but if u dont the fx 5200 is fine in the meantime

ps. id get it ur setup is to good for a 5200
