I have a dual opteron 240 Oced at 1.5ghz with 1gig of memory in 256x4 format. I'm curious as to which OS would actually run the best and not rape my system of resources as I play some big games. Would win2kpro, Windows 2003 server, XP pro, or XP64bit run the smoothest. I feel as if my computer isn't running as fast as it could and i want to put a few Anti-virus apps on it. More than one. So that way I can be completely secured. What do you guys think? I'm almost missing windows 2k.

Choice would be between W2k Pro and XP since you game...
X64 is getting better...but you have to remember...it is still 100% beta...so not a good idea to use as a main OS...
I havent used 2K3 in about 4 months...but I could not get half my games to either install or play without issues :(...
I personally use XP over W2K Pro for a gaming OC and use W2K Pro for a benchmarking OS...

I think dual booting XP32 & XP64 is the best option.
You're aware that more than one AV program set to actively scan at the same time can create massive headaches as they fight each other are you not? If you set one to actively scan and just use the others to investigate suspect files that's probably fine. I've used Norton AV and Panda this way together successfully, but when they were both actively scanning the system became unbootable.

Given the instruction sets on the A64's, I'd go with XP Pro. 2K would be my second option, then XP64 bit (due to be released in the next few months).

so you think XPpro over 2k? I wasn't expecting that.

XP pro is more user friendly and stable than win2k IMO. The advantage 2k has in performance is small to non-existent.

whatever anyone says, xp32 does exactly what it's supposed to and, despite its quirks and annoyances, it's SO much more stable than all previous "home user" versions of windows (i.e. 95/98/me). i'd go with xp32 :).
binny.

I'd go with XP Pro as well. I believe something about it handles dual cpu's better than the 2k kernel. I'm sure you could google to try to read up on it, it was a while ago I remember reading something like that.
EDIT: or 2003 server - I haven't had any experience with it though so I'm can't say either way.
