I just built a new Athlon 1.4 system(see specs at bottom) and I'm using windvd2000 to watch dvds. I get a real snowy picture when I watch dvds. It happened on both of my machines. I had to format my PIII system for other reasons but after I reloaded everything back on it DVD playback works fine. Tried the same thing with my Athlon and I still get snowy picture.tried a different video card-same thing. Could something be wrong with my AGP port???Everything else on the screen looks fine(desktop, games, etc.)PLEASE ADVISE

did you connect the audio cable from your DVD to your soundcard?

In my experience windvd2000 is crap. Wouldnt even play a dvd on my system after a fresh install of windows!!!!
So now im using ASUSDVD2000 without a problem. :) (Think you need to buy an ASUS vid card to get it though)
I suggest just going with a freeware/Shareware DVD player.

Well, it ain't your AGP port, because the way dvd's wok is this: The video card just displays a single color like green or magenta, and the dvd rom displays the movie over this color; much like a green screen in the movies. my guess is it's your software or your dvd rom.

Umm I dont know what that was about but...here i got again tyeping this out...ugh..

WinDVD 2000 is a software decoder and relys on the cpu specificly...
From my experience...it doesnt matter what vid card you have because its the software rendering the DVD...I used a voodoo3 and i could literaly see the software rendering or decodeing the DVD...

I got my Ati Radeon 64 and it came with its own DVD software....this software uses the video card itself to decode the DVD because the card supports it...I have much better picture now...

I jsut loaded the WinDVD 2000 and i have a poor or as you call it a snowy picture..(good eyes). To get a good picture you can get a DVD decoder card such as creatives DXR3 that decodes the DVD on itself... Or get a videocard that supports DVD decodeing and comes with its own DVD software. the Asus DVD software may use the video card it came with or just has better programing to produce better color. ..but im just asuming this if im wrong correct me please...

I have heard that Power!DVD is very good software and produces good picture quality...and that it can use most video card that support DVDs to decode or the cpu..either way I have been told it produces good picture... I found this while typeing (is it that long?)

Just read your config for your DarkAngle...You may want to see if who ever made your Geforce card and see if they have DVD sofeware for it..most cards come with DVD software...if not you can call the manufacture and they will send the software for free...normaly...but your card does support decodeing DVDs..thing is WinDVD doesnt take advantge of it...powerDvd i belive has the option to enable hardware support...

Let me know if this fixes ur problem...

try using powerdvd 3.0,
I had some problems with windvd, not snowy but real choppy.
I was real upset at first cuz I was using a 16X dvd. but with powerdvd it runs great, smooth never chops or anything.

I also run my movies at 1600X1200

i tried windvd when i first got my pc
it sucked
wouldnt even play a dvd

since i bought an asus vid card i got asus dvd with it
this is just power dvd rebadged under the asus name
but it is the best software decoder in my opinion

i also have a hardware dvd decoder card
however i prefer the output of asus dvd
so i use software instead of the hardware

I have similar problem, not snowy but choppy on some movies. I have 1.4 amd 12x dvd. Geforce2 gts 32meg, 512 mg ram, asus a7a266 motherboard.

When I put this system together, the agp driver for my motherboard came from Window98se. I did not use the driver that came with the motherboard. This is why I'm having choppy problem.

Thing is I didn't have a problem before I installed the savage4 card(using till the new ones come out in November-looking forward to the KYRO3). I didn't release the Agp card holder and it sounded like it scraped the connections on the port. Everything worked fine till I pulled out the card. Switched video cards, used 2 versions of windvd, switched dvd drives also; same snowy picture...
