Hi im looking for a good PDA, now im looking at the dell PDA's by 3/2/05 they got a sale on the the X30 with 624mhz CPU for 300$ and there is the X50 at 412MHZ CPU for the same price. is it worth X50 for less CPU power.

also another thing im going to be doing Word processing and playing music and games... so now im wondering if i need the X50 with 412mhz CPU or the X30 with the 624 CPU or if i can just get the X30 with 312MHZ CPU power which is 237$ and along with that get a keyboard and 1GB SD Card.

I got a used x50v for $345. The screen is awesome. It's well worth the extra few bucks. There are some good deals on different forums (like aximsite.com) in their classifieds. The classifieds here aren't too active with PDA's, but they are good to check. I always feel safest buying in the ocforums.

The big difference is the x50 has a CF slot. Are you planning to use a CF GPS or other accessory? If you are, you'll need the x50.

You can do word processing, music, and games all with a lower end CPU. However if you're looking at games the x50v has something that nobody else has--dedicated 3d accelerator. There are only a couple of games & demos out for it now, but it's pretty neat to look at.

Another benefit of getting the x30 is that lots of people are selling now to upgrade to x50. So there are a lot of second hand units and accessories floating around. The x50 is the latest and greatest, so everything is in short supply/near retail price.

The only other thing that you need to think about is that Windows Mobile 2005 comes out this summer (supposedly). Dell's more likely to provide an upgrade to x50 users than to x30 (newer product line gets the upgrades, you know?). However Dell could decide to make the upgrade available for owners of either or to neither.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide on.

I'm sorry--can you clarify your question? Which one do you mean by "the 300 one?" The x50 low (416 mhz, $299) does not have 802.11b, it only has bluetooth. That is a crazy price to pay for that unit. Dell regularly runs specials. I'd recommend you either buy used, buy from ebay, or check Dell's home store, small business store, or if your workplace or school has an account check through there. Dell has different pricing structures, and yes, any schmuck can buy from dell small business.

No, it wouldn't. Bluetooth lets you connect to other devices with bluetooth (like your phone, a laptop, your computer, a PDA, etc) within 30 feet or so. It's a very localized wireless protocol.

You'll need something with 802.11b or 802.11g if you want it to talk with your WiFi router.
