Hi guys! I need advice on upgrading my oldie Abit BH6 rev.1.01 + Celeron 300a@450. I was thinking of getting a faster Celeron II but I'm not sure which one and whether I'll be able to get it running on my board (Abit says rev. below 1.1 not compatible but I know ppl here have done it). Which Celeron would you recommend that could be reasonably expected to reach 100fsb and be stable on BH6? If I buy from the Internet, can I somehow assure that I get the cC0 part? Any especially good places to buy? Also does it matter which slotket to get? They seem to be hard to find and the few I found are usually the generic 'Super Slotket III'. Is that good enough? Does that particualt slotket allow voltage adjustments? And then there's cooling: I guess I'll need a good cooler to overclock my new CPU but I don't want it to be noisy or expensive - this is a budget uprade. I was eyeing Crome Mini Orb or Volcano II. What do you think?
Appreciate your help.

If you want a cC0 coppermine, then the Celeron 600 is the one for you. Yes, it will work in your BH6 (I had a Celeron 566 in one for a while). Yes, slotkets do make a difference. The cheap generic type don't overclock as well. Forget the Orbs, get a better cooler. For a slotket mounted CPU, it's hard to beat the Alpha PEP66 cooler.

THe slotket is just another name for those adaptor cards to use the FCPGA chips. HEre is the run down of the stuff I got from eBay. And thanks for Stealth for helping out on what to get and what not to get. He is my mentor at O/C.I also have a Abit BH6 ver 1.01 HN, but upgraded to the SS bios. Do that first.

Celeron 600mhz $53 shipped *I see on eBay this cpu is getting really cheaper* Oh and this cpu has the right stepping for O/C.

Iwill slocket $12 shipped

Vantec 6024D Heatsink fan $10.50 shipped

Total is $75.50 and this gets me into the 1ghz club. I could've went with a 800mhz but I did the math and my MB won't reach the 1.2ghz because of the FSB. So I got the most bang for the buck. I haven't installed the things yet because I found out that my stupid powersupply blocks my HSF. Make sure yours fit. I have a mini tower and I need to upgrade to a mid tower. ALso make sure you have good circulation in your case. I got 3 Sunon fans for $10 shipped. They are quiet and strong.

yeah, the 600 celeron or the 633 , they'll both hit the 1G with a bit of tweaking :) and if the chipset suports upto 120+ you could try a 100 fsb celeron to, like the 900 or 1000.

Youre not guaranteed a gig. I am currently running my cc0 600 celly and I managed to hit 927 (106FSB) And it ran 1008 (112FSB) for about three months before it decided it wanted to go back to 100mhz FSB. I was running at 2v in order to hit that, so Im not surprised that it wanted to go back after a while. Anyway, I am happy with it at 927. I am soon replacing with a gig AMD DDR setup :)

Lucifer is right, you are not guaranteed to hit 1 gig with those Celerons mentioned. But, in the orginal post, he was wanting a good chip that would have a excellent chance to run at 100 FSB, which the vast majority of the C-600 CPUs will do 900 MHz (9X100 MHz).

My cC0 566 runs at 118 FSB=1003Mhz at 1.9V on a soyo sy6vca mobo with a soltek slocket.

My old cB0 hit 877 on my BH6 (rev 1.02) at 1.85V but wouldn't go higher with an Iwill slocketII. The board, etc would run sweetly at 124MHz (I ran my old pII400 at 496 before I got my cB0 celly 566.)

I had an abit Slocket!!!, but I could only run the cCo in the soyo at 95 FSB, so I bought the soltek after consulting with a few ppl on the forum.

Get a Soltek Slocket (if you can find one) most ppl rate themmore highly than the Iwill part.
