What would be better? Running 1gig of ram in a dual channel config or having 1.5gigs of ram running single channel?

The use, just playing games, some web and picture editing.

Thanks for the info,

dual channel, unless you are manipulating huge photoshop files.

Most times, you won't even get to 1GB of use when gaming or doing any web editing so having more than that running slower wouldn't be useful.

Running dual-channel depending on the plaftorm can eather increase bandwith greatly or double it. This bandwith corresponds directally to the overall memory read/write speed. It is in your better instrests to run DC

I ran a bandwidth test on sandra2005 with 1GB @ dual channel and 1.5GB @ single channel. 1GB @ dual channel did twice as good as 1.5GB @ single channel.

Looks like I'll be buying two new motherboards that support dc ram. My current mb's only support single channel. Getting rid of the kt333 chipset and moving to the NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset. I think I'll like it better :D

Ya, dual channel is cool. I'm RMA'ing a stick of bad RAM now so I can run 2GB @ dual channel. :D
