View Full Version : what heatsinks should i get
I was wondering wether an alpha pal6035, pep66, or volcano II would be the best/most costeffective heatsink for an unoverclocked 1.2 ghz tbird. any suggestions are welcome.

If your not going to overclock you could pretty much just use a stock HSF.. If you want to get some good cooling system there is a ThermoEngine (don't remember the version) that is fairly cheap (about $30) and will keep your processor nice and cool.
Make sure you ahve pretty good airflow through the case, atleast an exhaust fan in the back...without one your HSF won't do very well no matter what kind it is

You can pick up those volcanos for about $20, and you'll probably be able to OC if you like.
but wil the alphas do the job. i would like to use a pal6035 if it wil handle the 1.2 ghz processor. this computer will never be overclocked.
By the way does any one know of a reputable online dealer were you can get a 1.2 ghz tbird for under a 100$ shipped.

I am planing on buyin the cpu from newegg, is it better to get the oem or the retail version. iwon't use the retail fan either way. doesn't the retail version come with a 3 year warranty from amd. by the way does any one know if the alpha pep66 with the regular fan fits on an ecs k7ama.

pep66 will be fine, but I would be wary if it didn't at least have a 26cfm fan on it. I would look at getting a SVC GoldenGate with a delta fan from http://www.svcompucycle.com. It will beat any of the three you mentioned. Be wary of the cheap thermoengine, the original showed better temps than what the actual core temp was, so i would be wary of what a shorter one would do.
How does the VANTEC CCK-6035D compare with the golden gate, pep66, and pal6035. is it better or equal?
Thanks for all the help
does any one have an opinion on the VANTEC CCK-6035D?
