Hey guys,

I am just putting together an dually Xeon system for 3DSMax rendering and casual gaming, and was hoping you guys could recommend me a good motherboard. As I am going to be upgrading my video card and memory at the same time, I am open to either a PCI-Express / DDR2 or AGP / DDR1 board. It seems like a lot of you are running modded PC-DL or NCCH boards - are these the enthusiasts choice? What would you folks consider to be the best of the AGP and PCI-express boards? Ideally, I would like a board tht I could just plug my LV 2.4 Xeons into and OC them without having to worry about doing VDIMM and other voltage mods. Does such a beast exist?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

the NCCH-DL does not need a voltage mod but Iwill makes a board that might work for you i think it is call a Iwill DN800 SLI but i dont remember what it all has on it http://www.iwill.net/product_2.asp?p_id=55

Unless Iwill gets a new and improved BIOS for the DN800-SLI, there won't be much overclocking on it.

true Audioaficionado but that was the only one that i could think of that has pci express but for OC'ing most use the PC-DL or the NCCH-DL

I can't help but put a vote in for the PC-DL board. Its been pretty good to me so far...1.6 Xeons to 3.08 right out of the gate. If I build another dual Xeon I'll probably pick up the NCCH-DL...it has dual VPMs which would make me feel better about the heat generation/distribution. But all in all, a great board. :)

I'm running Kingmax PC3500 (2 x 512) and its doing 207 FSB w/ 2.5-3-3-6 timings at 1:1 ratio without any Vdimm mods. And Kingmax isn't top of the line ram, so I'm pretty pleased with its performance with this board. ;)

PC-DL and NCCH-DL only have AGP, no PCI-E though. I think dualie OCing/gaming boards are just breaking into the market. Some of the other guys here would have a better idea about that than me though.

Good luck with your build!

You will have to do mods to get the vCore up on any board . I think the Current line up of boards all have advantages and disadvantage.I went with the NCCH-DL not sure if that would be my choice today but am very happy with it.I may have used the IwillDH-800 I think thats it lol..Non-SLI for no reason other then i think it is a board with more potential ..

true Audioaficionado but that was the only one that i could think of that has pci express but for OC'ing most use the PC-DL or the NCCH-DLThrow a pair of the new 3.6GHz Irwindale 2Mb L2 chips on it and you won't have to overclock it. You will need high-end heatpipe air or water cooling to keep the speed step function from kicking in too frequently.
