How old is the wiring? Run an extension cord (like the oranges ones that are grounded) to it, and see if it still happens when you plug it into another room.
it's the basement..cant get another room
my dad just came home (electrician) and he said he'll get me a different circuit...or something, i forget..you know how us teenagers are...dont listen to the parents :-D

You just drawing too much power from the circuit thats all. any more and you'd probably trip the circuit breaker. I had the same problem when we had two air conditioners running in adjacent bedrooms(plus all the lights and my tons of electronics in my room). Apparently the builder got cheap and decided to run all the wiring from both bedrooms on one main line instead of splitting up the rooms.
All you have to do is install another switch in the breaker box(or you might already have spare ones installed), and run some wiring from it through the walls to whatever outlets you want.
well, seeing as the stuff i'm running is..2 feet from the breaker box, this'll be easy right?
edit- a good chance for me to work with my dad and learn
