View Full Version : PSU Recommendations for my rig?

I'm desperately low on power here... my poor Antec 380w is really struggling (it takes me 3 attempts to boot up!). Once in Windows, it's fine most of the time, but my rails are all over the place and i've had a couple of random shutdowns over the past couple of months. So... I need a new PSU for my rig (see signature).

Features I need:

1. Nice and quiet (I like how quiet my Antec TruePower is).
2. Able to power the rig, with a little bit of headroom for adding another couple of hdds/another dvd drive. 450w or 500w maybe?
3. Doesn't cost the earth.

Any suggestions are of course welcome.
Thanks in advance,

Binny.

Update: I've found this Antec TrueBlue 480w for £58... is that any decent or can I get something better for the money?

fortron/sparkle is a good bet right now.. around 100 bucks (79 for the standard, 89 for the blue storm) will get you a nice 500/530W (the 530W being 79 bucks)

As an OCZ fan-boy, I must reccomend you the Powerstream 520W.

I reccomend you the PC Power and Cooling: Silent, affordable price and yet long-term warranty and incredibly good rails. :-)

As an OCZ fan-boy, I must reccomend you the Powerstream 520W.

Just checked the prices over here and the cheapest I've found is £103...and i'll need shipping on top of that. To be honest, that's a bit too expensive for my liking :).

Here's my recommendation - Fortron AX500-A: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=8022

Same price as the Antec, and a far better PSU for your needs.

Just found the Fortron Blue Storm 500 at PC World...and cheaper @ £53! (This surprised me a lot)

I presume this is still the same one?

Also, how quiet is this PSU? Coz noise is quite important to me.

Cheers,
Binny.

Yep, same one. Not sure how quiet it is, but it should be at least as quiet as the Antec thanks to the 120mm fan. There are a few people who have these on the board, but I'm not one of them - I have the older 530w unit.
