I have an LG cell phone that I used to hook up to my PC and edit the phone book. After I upgraded my MB & CPU I did a clean install of XP Pro.

I reinstalled the software for the phone, but now when I try to hook up the phone it cannot find it on com1 or com2. I have unloaded Hotsync so that is not a problem. I am pretty sure I used to run it off of com3 or com4 before all this new stuff.

How do I activate com3 & 4 ?

I believe you can reassign 1 and 2 in the bios to 3 and 4. Unless you have some sort of device like a modem or interface card then XP should find it and assign it for you. Or you can do it manually in the Device drivers under the hardware tab in MY COMPUTER properties

Out of curiosity, which LG phone do you have? I tried using some software and I couldn't get it to connect to my LG l1400.

I have the VX6000.
I did get it to install. I had to go into Control Panel/System/Hardware/Advanced then I went down to Com Port and selected search for new hardware and Tada Windows did it's magic . It assigned Com3 to my phone.
