This is my #1 tweak for broadband internet. I'm sure most of you know this, but I thought I'd post it to help any newbies out there. Rather than explain it myself, I'll refer you to DSLreports.com's FAQ section. (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/578)
Before the test I got a horrible speed of <200k down <100 up (at work on a T1!). After this simple, 2 minute tweak and a reboot, here's what I got:
** Speed 1413(down)/1188(up) kbps **
(At least 28 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

do you use a download accelerator? those can greatly improve speeds themselves. my speed more than doubles with the use of an accelerator (i use download accelerator plus, which can be found at cnet's download site)

I just had an idea, so I ran a test. Here are the results:
Both computers are Compaqs. 500 Mhz P3 with 64 MB memory. Both computers are on the same network and sit side by side on a T1 (run through an old hub). I went to DSL reports and did a test on the NJ site (the closest to my location). I hit the Start button at the same time on both machines and here are the results:
Computer #1 (with this tweak): 1076 Down / 1092 Up
Computer #2 (Identical except for the tweak): 348 Down / 1230 Up
Obviously, the tweaked machine is much faster downloading. As far as the upload speed goes, I don't know why the untweaked machine got a better score (my best guess is that comp #1 was done uploading and I already had the results so there was more available bandwidth to test upload speed...remember, I started the tests at the same time)
So I ran the test again (same site) only let #1 finish before I started #2....
#1: 1314 Down / 1151 Up
#2: 322 Down / 1092 Up
Ok, that seems more like it! An extra mb down isn't bad for a two minute tweak :)
yes ive used those on my comp i used to host servers, very good boost.
Just out of curiosity, are you guys putting in the same numbers that are in the picture? or are you figuring your own out with the formula it gave you on the website?

I put in 65535. Easier for me because my cable company didn't tell me a speed (Them: "It's a lot faster than 56k"...Me: *sigh...*)
