stanby button grayed out

i used to have astandby button on my shutdown screen (the one where standby shut down and restart are) i did an xp tweak guide and from then (i think ) the button has been grayed out. Is there any way to get it back.

Perhaps you have disabled acpi either in the OS or in the BIOS? Check the BIOS first, as that's easiest.

If it used to work, and you havent changed any settings, then it might be corrupt or missing value in the registry. Have you intalled any aggresive programs? Sometimes programs can mess up the registry. My search button quit working one time after installing norton av 2003. I simply uninstalled the prog. and deleted the registry entries, and it went back to normal.
