Just wandering what types of packet sniffing software are out there. I have been using something called Packet Sniffer. I forgot who made it, but it was freeware, and I never really searched for another packet sniffer since this one seamed to fulfill my needs. But I have become curious about what else packet sniffers can do after seeing an advertisement on a webpage for Commview, a packet sniffer by a company named Tamo Soft. It made me question about what other packet sniffing software exist, so I thought I might check the ocforums to see what experience you all have had with different packet sniffing software.

newer smilies

I know of Snort and Ethereal for Linux, not sure about any others though.

I use ethereal. I've also used etherpeek, but I believe it is a shareware limited thing- in that you can only capture a little bit before it cripples itself and wants you to pay.

2nd the vote for ethereal

snort is intrusion detection, not packet sniffing
