View Full Version : Duct = No help?

I had 'hot glued' a 80mm fan that just blew at the 60mm CPU fan and underfull load temps were 59C now I constracted a duct that fits on the fan and covers it. The 80mm fan is located on the outside of the duct and now I'm getting only 1C off... 58C and still burning.. that really sux
And another question: If the CPU fan is running faster due to high air flow on it (like from 4150 it got to 4821 RPM), could it get damaged in any way?

I'd leave an inch or so between the duct and the top of the heat sink fan.

I just tried putting the duct ~1" away from HSF and the temp rose in 1C! I back to where I started w/o the duct! Any one knows why could it be that way?

how powerful; is the fan, if the fan is not good then it will not improve the temps at all
Also, when ducting a heat sink you should consider the static pressure of the fan in addition to the CFM. The duct adds increased resistance.
I'm thinking about using the delta's kicked down to 7 volt. Does anyone know if I can tap into the 3.3 volt line to get a nice 9 volt solution?

I'm not sure of the fan's power/RPM/CFM cause its a fan from a very old AT PSU... but it feels like a very good airflow. And I was mistaking the temps with the distanced duct was same as on fan duct... 1-2C less than w/o the duct.
First you might want to try a new HSF,
then don't waste your money on 120mm that only push at most 138 cfm. go for a Comair Rotron "only 8.95" and they push 235 cfm.
When I put one on mine my idle temp droped to 25C.
It also sounds like you need alot more air runnin through your system.

My case sides are always off...
I have no tools (and don't know anyone who has them) to make holes and can't get any fans anywhere...
the problem with taking the side of your case is that it stops all air flow. "unless you put a fan right in front......maybe an idea:)"
How many cfm in and out do you have without counting the hsf or the psu fan?
Try to leave your hsf on the hs and leave your duct open (no fan) , so put some hot glue on the end of your duct to stick it to the side of your case. Then try extending the duct either 1" from the hsf or as close as you can get it without touching your hsf. When I had my 60mm delta (38cfm) rigged like this I was getting a 4°C improvement ove the standard = air in/out setup.
I hope this helps.
