Hi,
With stock intel HSF I was getting over 60-63C idle and load at 73-78C.. I recently picked up a Thermaltake Silent Tower HSF and it now idle around 53C and load around 60-65C..
Is that ok? I have it overclock to 3.9.. I only notice it is only 2C higher than stock setting..

Wow those temps. are really high. My suggestion is too keep everything at stock speed until you find a better HSF:)

I keep on reading that presscots cpu run hotter than other intel cpu.. But i don't know how much hotter is normal.. the guy in the store tells me intel p4 3.4 and 3.6 are o/c from intel already.. is that true?
Prescotts do run warmer than Northwoods. Looking at your idle temps, I can tell you need much better case ventilation. The guy in the store was sort of wrong since 2.8, 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6, and 3.8 are all 800 bus processors and technically are not overclocked. But, sort of right in regards to them all being the same core.

your temps are fine. I would worry about anything over 65c full load.
how are you testing for full load?
Prescott's do run hotter than any other previous P4.
But, 53 idle temp is too high. That's a sure sign of needing more air flow in the case.

agreed, 53c on idle is definitely too high... I missed that and only saw the load temps.

Thermaltake usually isnt known for great performing heatsinks - Im suprised you saw the improvements in temps that you did - mine only gained me a 2 degree drop at full load *worthless*
My 3.2 478pin prescott at full load is 47 celsius at stock and OCd to 3.71GHz loads at 55 celsius with a low noise panaflow strapped to a ThermalRight (not to be confused with TT = ThermalTurd) XP120. If your in the market for a good air cooler you cant go wrong with the XP120 or XP90.

my idle is 50 Degrees but im at 3.4ghz and my load is 54degrees!

What batboy wants to say is that you need more case fans ;)

Maybe not more case fans, but proper placement as well. Also, you may need to clean up your wiring to allow air to flow freely through the computer.
