View Full Version : How do I lap a heatsink?

I recieved my SK6 today and I looked at the bottom immediatley.
There were a few light scratches and 4 tiny puncture marks that formed a square if you connect the dots. (I think thats where the cpu is supposed to be) It looks like i might need to lap it. Or I could just rub some ASII into it and hope it fills all the spaces. (BTW in the space I think that it makes contact with the cpu core, there is are many scratches there) I actually scratched it lightly just by running my fingernail lightly over the surface to feel the bumps!:eek: So would you recommend me lapping it or just using the ASII on the contact surface? If I should lap it how do I do that?

ps you can buy silicone carbide wet/dry sandpaper at WalMart or any Auto part stores

yes but there arent any marks in where i think the cpu touches the heatsink

What temps do u get then?
