Is there an easy way (without buying a cisco router) to priortize traffic by ports? I have a decent connection to the net, but I really want to be able to ssh to my box at home, without being effected by my roomates uploading stuff ot the net. I know I can do this with a cisco router/switch, but is there any windows or *nix programs that can do this. I know LARTC can, but I can't figure out how.

Thanks

You could probably achieve this by using smoothwall with some added on mods or I think clarkconnect has a bandwidth limiter also. You'd have to have a spare junker computer to run these.

Or you could get a Linksys wrt54g or GS model router and flash it with the firmware found HERE (http://sf01_32.ipx10813.ipxserver.de/dd-wrt/)

YOu can read up on it at THESE (http://forum.bsr-clan.de/viewforum.php?f=12) forums

Failing that, you can try pf in OpenBSD.
