after 2 days of trying to get an install that works with my NIC, I have overcome my nemisis. mandrake 7.2 seriously has issues with the tulip drives. if it was one thing it wasn't another. first off the drivers failed in the install, I thought no big deal I will use the ones off the nic disk. well I had an older disc and tryed to complie them with the gcc command. well the readme had messed up switches. So I reinstalled to see if I could get the install to recongize it. no good. so I found the new disk and tar'ed the file, had a makefile, great! tryed to to run a make command. command not found. hmmm, try to run a gcc command. command not found. Well I figured the install screwed up and didn't intall some compiling rpms. Didn't know which rpm, so I did a fresh install. after the install went head and tar'ed the dirvers, issued a make and I had some modules. did some insmod's and try and ifup eth0. got an error. try an insmod -p with one of the drivers and found out the mods hadn't installed. (i have left out alot of searching on the web trying to figure out what the H*ll I'm doing) so it has now been 15 hours trying to get this thing to work. I threw up my hands and just downloaded mandrake 8.0 install went pretty well, I didn't have the exstentions cd but I just will have to download that too. I got my nic up and working now so I am happy. I give you my post on a linux box. I think I did pretty well as a newbie

Uh huh... got a tulip card here. Been there, done that. That's why I was trying to tell you you'd have to tinker with it for the earlier 2.4 series kernels. But, I didn't know you were using a nic that used the tulip drivers either. Now get yourself into a newer kernel. You'll be glad you did.

If you got Mandrake 8.0 installed and working with your nic at all, you should be quite proud of yourself. I never did! I had to drop back to the 2.2 kernel just to get it installed and the nic working. But that's old news and different issues were involved such as a flakey VIA chipset etc... That mudderboard has since found it's way into somebody else's machine, a WinDoze machine. They were made for each other anyway, so it's a good place for it.

Congratulations!

I had a tulip card on one linux box, didn't have any problems with it, I just compiled a kernel with the correct drivers and it worked fine.
