I have been talking with a lot of people about why I am not getting the OC speeds that I expected out of my 1 Ghz Athlon on a brand new Epox 8kha.

One thing that I have been doing a lot of research on is the chip steppings...lots of talk about AXIA and others.

Has anyone had good luck with a purple core ARGA? Week 23 of 2001. The best I have done so far is 1.133, or 8.5x133fsb. I really can't get it to do much so far.

Any experience with ARGA or other steppings?

i had a 1gig arga, and i could not get above 1.13ghz. make sure you have bumped up the voltage. my friend had his arga at 1.2, but beyond that, it just does not go.

I've had similar experiences with that cpu. The highest i could get was 1177 after upping the voltage. So i guess it just not that great for OCing :(

WOW. I'm sorry for what sounds like a pretty standard core. Everyone keep those letters engrained in your head. ARGA...ARGA. Don't buy them if you don't want to be dissappointed. 1GHz chips are gonna get pretty cheap soon.

Next time, before you buy, post to see what steppings people are having good luck w/...or better yet. Check the CPU Database (http://overclockers.cssftware.com/cpudb/index.cfm) on the main page. Most of the entries are accurate and should give you a good idea what the hot steppings are.

Sorry again..better luck next time.

I've got 2 ARGA cpu's so I'm just building a dual tbird server with them.

Find yourself an AVIA-y and smile from ear to ear

No.. find yourself a 1ghz ayjhar. They have been getting an average overclock of 1.65ghz with stock voltages and decent cooling. Good luck on finding one though as OCZ has been sold for weeks. Try Ebay.
