I've been away for a few days and just checked the EOC stats page to see PMSfishy with like 11.7K ppd and Seven right behind.

Holy Melting Motherboards, Batman!!!!

This Intel vs AMD thing must really be cookin' now. The last time I checked the top 20, it was dark and nik duking it out at the top.

Yeah, I had fishy in my sights utill he and seven came up with the d**n war thing and he ran off and left me in the dust. I'll keep on plugging along and when the war's over, hopefully I'll be gaining on him.

That worries me :-/ I quess I'll just have to start a wars over thread to remind folks. Perhaps with the added suggestion that if they really don't want to fold for themselves, they could fold for me :D

Yeah, Fishy's at 12.5k PPD right now :D

It's still interesting how we're outproducing Seven, but he's getting more points than us :eh?:

If you're looking at EOC stats, I've noticed before that's there's something funky with them. Like I've gained on, and passed people that EOC was saying were getting 50+ more ppd than me and it wouldn't give me an overtake date for them, however far in the future, yet I've passed them and they are 20 places down maybe, and they're showing on my threats as passing me inside a week.... yeah, yeah, whatever. I think also it tends to somehow overestimate for big point WUs, like if you've got LOTS of small WUs going in @ more actual PPD than someone who's got a few big ones, then EOC seems to inflate the PPD of the guy with the big WUs and make it look like he's outproducing you.

EOC adds up the actual values of WUs turned in as reported by Stanford. There is no way for it to "overestimate" the the point value of a work unit. The data on the overtake page correlates precisley with the data on the user summary page. On the user summary page you can see the value of the work units turned in to Stanford in each 3 hour period, no estimation going on here. The three hour periods add to days the days add into the weeks and weeks into months. The points 24 hour average = points last seven days divided by 7. The points last 7 days is 7 - 24 hour periods from the posted update not 12am -12am. Nothing but math going on. It is therefore impossible to pass someone without averaging more points than they do. However, if you check stats infrequently you could miss the days you averaged more. One bad day will drag the 7 day average down just as one good day will inflate it.

It is not impossible to pass someone without averaging more points than they do. If you average fewer points, but are close, and have a good update (think 600 pointer), its quite possible that you have a lower average but overtake someone.

If someone is averaging higher, and passes you by 50 points, and you turn in a 60 point gromac and they turn in nothing that update, their average will likely still be higher, but you will overtake them for a short period of time. ;)

I will agree that you could pass someone just ahead of you who is averaging more ppd if you have a big update. However you'll be temporarily passing them back, not passing them and putting them 20 places back.
