Well after waiting for what seemed like forever I finally got myself a new card. It is a X800pro that my friend bought for me with her employee discount at a large electronic retail chain that she works for so I got it pretty cheap ( I was an opened return as well).
As soon as I got it I threw my swiftech Waterblock on it and started OCing it :D. So far I have it up to 596/536.
I think I did pretty good on the core but my mem seems to be a pretty poor OC. I am already planning on doing some volt-mods to it and perhaps running a pelt on it as well. The temperature seems to stay pretty low as I was playing CS:S for 2 hours and just checked the temp by alt+tab and it was sitting at 34.
I am not going to post any 3dmark scores yet since I am having a hard time with my new mobo and getting it stable so my OC is not where it should be.
I was just wondering from all the people that have voltmoded their x800's what gains they saw on their core OC's?

Cool, nice card.
The core seems very good for stock volts? run 3dmark 01 nature test a few times, see if it's ok?
Are you cooling the memory?
Iam sending my XTPE of to ViperJohn, so ill get back to you soon with my Maze 4 Acetal on it! :)

To be hoenst Ive talked to alot of people who have done this. Gotta think of it this way, volt modding an x800 would be like giving a Pent4 voltage.
Sure it helps but 99.9% of your overclock is gonna be on stock volts

Hrmmm that is a little discouraging there Sen, I was really hoping to unlock this card with some more volts. Well I think I will still try the volt-mods, as long as I dont kill my card what can it hurt :).

Yep it is at stock volts for the moment, although that will hopefully change within a few weeks.
I have some OCZ ramsinks on the memory right now and I have to re-do my case before I can get a fan blowing on them from the sidepanel. My memory OC does seem a bit disapointing though.
ViperJohn is the man, his cards are just pure geek lust :D.

Don't worry about what he said mate, X800 cards respond very very well to extra voltage, Sen obviousy doesn't know what he is talking about.
Just ask ViperJohn, id imgine you'd get another 40mhz with a decent volt mod.

guntam gained like 50MHz on his x800pro with a pencil vmod, he says those eat volts like candy. with your cooling I say 650 should be easy. as for your ram, you need to relax the timing then you can get high 500s

Alright sounds like its going to get voltmoded pretty soon then :D. I am going to have to do some research on which timing's to play around with and I will post my results back here.
I am loving playing HL2/CS:S on 1280x1024 with everything turned on MAX and it running smooth like buttah :sn: .

If your running it on a non a64, get a Venice and youll be able to run 1600x1200 maxed out and ill be buttery smooth x2 ;)

Ya I want to go A64 but I am going to wait until the summer when the instability problems of the NF4 will of hopefully been resolved. Plus it will be PCI-E so I think I will be looking at a x800xl (if we ever see some definitave OC results on this new core).

Volt mod your card and you will get mid 600's on the core I bet. I did the pencile mod on mine and got an extra 43mhz on the core. Only gave it .1v at the time as my cooling wasn't so good. I've got a modded silencer on it now so I may try a bit more vcore and see what I get.

nf4 mobos are just fine, so are nf3. instable? ha my a64 is just as stable as my old athlon xp and twice as fast. If you go pci-e you will be unable to use your x800pro  but x800xl may not matter cause ati may have rv520 or r515 for the $200-300 market and yes itll be 90nm and ps3 :attn:

I have just been reading that lots of people have been having some stability problems with their NF4 boards. I know the the NF3 boards are just like NF2 (stable), but I thought that the NF4 crop was still a little "green". Either way I will be waiting till the summer for my major upgrade anyway so I can afford to be patient and wait things out :D.
My x800pro will still see lots of gaming action so it wont be that bad.

Erm no dude. A Faster CPU isn't really gonna help you out with settings like that, because guess what, thats the GPU's job.
I was hoping you were gonna say cpu bottleneck.
Your card sounds a helluva lot like mine, pretty much exactly the same on both core and memory. Voltmodding helped me a ton, as OC550 said. 590+ is in itself quite impressive, but now I've got 650 stable, and about 670 benchable, with 1.6v. All I did was the pencil mod. In order to get your memory faster, increase your TRP from to 6 in ATiTool. Performance per MHz suffers slightly, but the massive bandwidth increase offsets this; I gained 500 3DMarks in 03 just by doing this.

Very very impressive clocks there for a X800Pro.
It it complety stable with major benching in nature?

Alot of people buy 3500+ and even FX cpus.......guess what.......to reduce the cpu bottleneck and make their games faster. Games are only as good as your weakest link and its the cpu because gpus have gotten crazy fast. Just look at reviews, the charts show that faster cpus add fps to games

Highest I got thru a single pass was 675 IIRC. 650 will run forever. ATiTool took it to like 682 or something and crashed the computer, what a big help, lol.

OC550 has a point this time, the faster you can run your cpu the more you will benefit in benches and games using X800 cards. These cards love fast CPU's, the faster the better.
Definitely, comparing to one of my friends who used to have one of these, at 2.9GHz and with slower GPU clocks, he beat my 2.5 GHz pretty easy in 03, which is supposedly a GPU benchmark. These cards demand plenty of CPU power indeed. But then again, on the flip side, we put my card into my friend's Athlon XP, and still pulled a very respectable 12.5k out of it, less than a 1k loss.

Alright well I relaxed that one timing you suggested there Gautam and I got my memory clock up to 573. ATI tool stopped at that and was stable for 5+ hours. So that leaves my card at a respectable 596/573, which I think is not to bad :D.
Also I still have to get a fan blowing directly on the heatsink on the ram so that should hopefully bump up the mem OC by 10 mhz ( or I am hoping).
Then once I get both the core and mem overvolted this card should really start to post some respectable numbers. I am loving this card so far.

maybe I should get me one of those, 600+ core, and possible 600 ram is tempting, makes 9800pro/xt crap in comparsion. I will keep my 9800p only if it does very well clocking, else its gone!

Exactly, this it the point. Sure a really fast A64 is gonna be sweet, hell you pay for it. Smart people, spend there money wisely. Id rather have a XTPE and Athlon XP, than a A64 and a 9800Pro.
OC550 cant' get cpu bottleneck out of his head. Run HL2 at 1600x1200 with AA and AF with say a 9800Pro and A64, then with a Athlon XP and a X800. I can tell you know which one will be better.

Man give it up seriously, it is fine if you want to argue with OC550 or counter him on some points but it seems all you have done since you have joined it just talk crap about OC550 and pick apart everything he says. Just give him a break, he may repeat some things over and over but everyone just notices it cause he is so sure of himself :D.
Also he never attacks anyone back and takes all the stuff being said about him in stride.
Can ya feel the love in the air?
Great clockin' Ad Rock :D
Your card has some serious potential. Haven't modded the memory yet, heard it barely does anything, but that won't stop me from trying.

Yeah those are very good clocks. My card did 530 on stock voltage and raised up to about 1.61v, I got 585+ on the core. More cooling is demanded now I guess. Anyways so that's about a 55 mhz increase. The memory I can't really tell whether it helped that much, possibly a 10-20 mhz increase..?

very imrepssive my x800 XT does 542 cre / 547 ram right now - after that ATI tool freezes after about an hour - my temps a35C idel and about 43C load with an silencer one it - so tempting to do that pencil mod!!!!

Yep I have the goal to crack 650 on the core and hopefully 600 on the memory. I should be able to accomplish both of those with some volts and more cooling on the memory. When my NF7 gets here I will post some 3dmarks :D.

i am iffy to do it as i had to RMA one x800 PRO and it took 3 months to get it back, so i dont want to be stuck on a 8500 64mb card again if i kill tis one and need to save to buy a new card :(

Ya volt moding will be a little scary, but no pain no gain right :D. Plus I need to learn to do this eventually if I want to start moving on up in the ranks of OC'ing nerdom.

Hey it worked for me and I didn't feel a thing. As long as you have some good cooling on the card you should be fine. My over clock is strictly pencile mod and a silencer that I moddified myself. Extra ramsinks on the back to help cool the ram and I took the plastic shroud and stock fan off, added extra piece to the heatsink and installed a card cooler to blow on the heatsink.
