View Full Version : Thank you all for your support! (My resignation)

Allan Nielsen

I have for some time been meaning to resign from my spot as team leader here at oc.com.

Today is the day.

It is time for new powers to take over and share their ideas. I should have done this a long time ago, I am truly sorry it took me so long to realize.

I know for a fact that some of you are happy I finally decided to resign, but I also hope at least a few of you still appreciate my work.

I wish to thank everyone who helped me form this team, I could never have done it without you.

If you wish, I will continue to function as an advisor to whoever the new team leader will be. I will let this be up to you all to decide.

Thank you for your support, FOLD ON ALL!

PS. I am not leaving overclockers.com, you will still see me posting now and then. Just to clear that up.

I knew this was coming for a couple of days now. Not happy or unhappy about it, but I am glad that you posted this message to give this team an opportunity to find a new team leader. Good luck. Things are looking good there already.

Sorry to see you go, Allan.... I know people have their differences with you, so I see why you would not want to continue in your current capacity.

Will you still be folding for us? :) You're always welcome to crank out a few WU for us every now and then....

Sorry to see you have to leave. To echo SickBoy, please continue to fold for us. I think you did a great job and will continue to be a valuable part of the Folding@Home team through your advisorship.

Allan...best of luck always. I know I speak for 99.99999% of us when I say your work was completely appreciated. I'm completely baffled that anyone would want to see you resign!! What did I miss?

I don't want to get into a flame war, but it seemed like Stanman was being belliegent (sp?) and most decidedly uncooperative. I think Allan took the right path by saying that it must stop.

EDIT: I am also astonished that you chose to openly criticize a fellow overclocker and folder. It is one thing to have private beliefs that differ with another, but quite another thing to say that the person himself is wrong.

It seemed to me like a childish "no, I'm the leader, listen only to me!!!" kind of ploy, and it really annoyed the crap out of me.

Ahhh, good intentions can sometimes be misinterpeted. It sounds to me that you were both using different approaches to reach the same common goal, and you think you're approach is the "right" one.

Suit yourself. What's done is done and I won't devote any more time to discussing it.

I will also use this post to announce that I too am leaving the team. I am helping another team get off the ground and going and am sorely needed there right now. I too will be around here, encouraging the team, answering questions, and just help keep this an active place in the forums. I am not abondoning this team at all, I love you guys. This is a great team, with great people here. I have no doubts at all about the continued success of the team here at oc.com. I feel called to help this new team out, as I feel the competition will benefit both teams by drawing more folders in and have a greater benefit to the greater cause that we all devote our time for. So this will certainly not be the last time you hear from me(can't get rid of me that easily  ). Fold On!

Half right, half wrong. At the moment, NO TEAM gets any work units from me, as I have no internet connection at home. It is as simple as that. I have run multiple clients in the past, and I am still going to give oc.com some of my cpu power when the v2 client arrives.

Please, don't speak on my behalf on things like that.

I am sorry to see you go Allan, I know I haven't been around here much lately (summer is a busy time for me) but you will be missed. I respct your decision tho and wish you the best of luck.

I thought you had put me on invisible mode, and therefor you wouldn't see this thread...

So, I am not dedicated to folding? Please, explain yourself here. I was on the team even before you were, and I have spent more hours creating and maintaining a web page than you could possibly imagine. Is it because I have not bought a lot of computers to fold for me? You can call me a lot of things, but to say I am/was not dedicated to the cause is beyond me. Does anyone agree with Would71 on this? If so, please let me know.

You are right, Stanman started the negative tone. However, you made it even worse with your posts, and peole got the impression that we were enemies instead of team mates here. I decided it would be in everybodys best interest to shut you both up and get people folding instead. You, however, objected to this and continued to post in that manner.

I was actually astonished when you sent me your private message, as it was WAY below what I expected of you. You feel I am incompetent because I did not agree with everything you said. That is indeed sad. You should learn to respect other peoples views, and perhaps think of the greater good, instead of just wanting to be right.

"Dedicated" doesn't necessarily mean "he who throws the most money at the project", either. Someone who's been around awhile and worked their way up would be preferable.. although not set in stone. (no, I am NOT speaking of myself, I have no desire to run a team or take care of stats or settle disputes or whatever)

I am looking over the list of Folders for the team, and people such as yourself, (Willys) or TT120 if we saw him around here much, or Robjustice, or theflycore, or 1g_raider all jump to mind as possible replacements. If I didn't list someone, don't take it personally, I'm just going over in my mind which names I've seen around for awhile, and who might be logical candidates.

My apologies, Allan.... I know that you hadn't been folding which was really not too much of what I cared about. I just couldn't fathom why you would be leading another site's team and still fold for us... seems like you would get yourself into trouble with your friends over there (and I wouldn't ask you to do such a thing).

I posted last night in the heat of my anger over this other forum, and now that I've had a few hours of sleep to cool off, I realize that I may have unneccessarily angered a few people and I'm sorry. Please accept my apologies.

Pehaps Would71 is contributing to this Negative tone by saying this about Allan. I have a lot of respect for both Would71 and Allan and I am sorry to see him go.

Would71 has helped me out a lot when I first started out on oc.com but I can't help but feel that he is also being a little negative over the Stanman and Allan Subject.

Just my thoughts,
Lenny

Thats ok Andy, no harm done. I won't get in any trouble "over there" as you say. I have never promised to abandon oc.com, I am doing them a favor I promised to do some time ago.

Leading such a huge team had become a burden to me instead of just joy, and I knew it was time to step down.

I will never forget you guys, I'll continue to stop by the folding section, and I will continue to fold some WUs for you/us. :)

he won't get in trouble. Allan is just leading the team over there, one that is MUCH smaller and will take much less time to manage. If he wishes to fold for oc.com, no biggie. I am going to fold for oc.com in the future, mark my words. We don't want to undermine the team.

Regardless of who's leaving and who's not. I would like to remind anyone reading this thread that a team is a sum of its active, contributing, members.

People always come and go but the root of the team is those that are able to look past personal differences (which everyone here has until recently)

Let's stop all the finger pointing and griping and get back to folding. I stayed away from the folding forum for a few days after the negative "stuff" started flying. I don't care who said what. I just don't want to be a part of it. It's a waste of bandwidth as far as I'm concerned.

Let's get back to what majority of us do best...contribute to the team effort, answer questions, learn new stuff, etc, etc. We have been climbing the stats all year and I don't intend on letting us slip in the ranks because 1 or 2 senior members are moving on.

Fold On Already!! ;)

I agree, Superman. It is astonishing.

I don't believe we're alone in this feeling, and further I've found Alan to be completely dedicated, honorable, and a gentleman completely undeserving of this sort of criticism.

I can't say that about someone who would post the message to which you're referring.

Alan, if you're reading this, I wish you well. I feel badly things have gone the way they have, and I think you've done a great job. Your kind welcome and encouraging words helped win me over to the cause of folding.

Best of luck, Taylor

I remember the day when you suggested folding@home instead of seti@home to us here at oc.com.

I belive I was the first one to actually try folding, and toghether we suggested to start the oc.com-f@h team. You have done a LOT for this team, and without your help the team would not be in it's current position. You have done more than anyone to keep this alive and kicking. GREAT WORK Allan.

I think you should totally ignore negative comments about your work here. Some ppl just types to get attention, not to tell the truth :)
