yeah people getting married is very disturbing :) I wonder if they have any choice over the ads that get placed from the ad servers...

If there would be any relevancy to overclocking i wouldn't mind but seeing ads for dating services, greeting cards and stupid free smilies is not apreciated.

If that crap keeps overclockers floating, then im not one to complain. I dont even notice them anymore... dont pay attention to what they try to sell.

a lot of computer banner ads are just for suckers, anyway. if it's that great we will hear about it, and we all know how to type www.newegg.com. I agree about the smilie ad, it really sucks down the cpu cycles. not all of them, but it would kill your folding progress and heat up your computer for nothing.

No matter how unappreciative these add's may seem to us, if they didnt exist then there is a fair chance that www.overclockers.com wouldnt either. So all you can do is simply put up with it, ignore it, and learn some things about pc's and such. But i do find it ridiculous for an add to eat up cpu cycles whatsoever. If only the common pc user knew these things and we all complained about that, it would end. (perhaps) But what do these ad makers really care if it eats up cpu cycles? Either way, lowly pc users will click on it which are the one's that would do it in the first place anyways.

Bonus points to anyone who photochops a PC in place of the woman ;)

At work I blocked all images for the banners and ads on the frontpage (including overclockers.com images), because I want to read and that's all. I don't have flash installed either so the page is pretty clean now, even if it does look a bit strange.

At home I'm less strict and I deal with the "strobe effect" I get when visiting overclockers.com, but I visit it from home very rarely so it's not that bad.

Banners may keep the site going, but I don't contribute in that manner. You can count the number of banners I've clicked since I started browsing the web on one hand. Since I don't use them, I don't see them :)

I tend to click now and then. I dont buy anything but I figure it cant hurt to try and help the site by convincing advertisers that the number of clickthroughs justifies sponsoring the site :)

I block most of the adds (using FF) and I've taught my firewall to stop adds from showing up. As David aid, it doesn't hurt to click on those adds even if you don't buy anything.

As for the dating add...

I don't think Inet have any control over the adds though.

shhhh :p

Gotta admit... some of the ads here on the top of the forums are funny... like the one that shows a pic of a HDD and then says "Click Click Click...." .... "Maybe it's time to start thinking about remote backup?" :p
