View Full Version : Micron buyibg AMD?
Well the news today says AMD is laying 2000+ employee's and closing 2 manufacturing plants :(
Now I read that Micron may be buying AMD might be a rumor just have to wait and see.
Even if true hopefully it will have no negative side effect on amds current plans or prices.
Micron buying AMD? The dudes at HardOCP are saying that Yahoo Financial is reporting rumors of a possible buyout/merger.

Hmm.. Very intersting news. A lot of good could happen from that.
Could just be a rumor too.. we will see.
Awww... AMD going out of business? :S
It is easy to tell why though, and that is simply that customers do not know that many more 'advanced' users prefer AMD. I myself probably would have bought a Pentium4 until i did very very extensive research. I was always interested in computers but i learned about L1 & L2 caches, how the architecture of the P4 and Athlon are completely different, and all that. I was fascinated. I learned more and more every day and decided to apt for an Athlon.
Customers see "OMG! 2.0 Ghz! And it is from INTEL! I have heard of them! It is 500$ more expensive than a 1.4 Athlon chip, but that must mean it is BETTER!"
:(
I was afraid this would happen. The price war and the economy have really taken their toll. Intel has more cash on hand to last through this, but I'd hate to see them lose a competitor that has so greatly benefited us all lately. Micron seems to be a good company, but look what happened when Compaq bought DEC.
Indeed a sad news. This will probably mean less competition for Intel = less inovations = higher prices = MS version of hardware
that sux!!! i hope AMD doesn't go out of business, i don't want to have to buy any intel chips..:( i dont see why micron would buy out AMD, as they develop memory chips, and have no experience developing CPUs...

you are all reading into this way! too much....
ok just to calm u down i have a friend on the inside and he said that the old fab's werent as cost affecient and that they were not making as much as before so its just a move to save us the consumer moolah
Yeah if this happens then it totally blows but I don't think that AMD is doing that bad and they don't have teh huge overhead/marketing that Intel does. I am worried but I will wait until I see it in the WSJ or something on the larger websites.

damnit im not just blowing smoke here.
first off micron is doing worse than amd is at this point.
it would more likely happen the other way around because micron doesnt have the market capital to buy amd,
but amd has the capital to buy micron.
lastly fab14 and 15 couldnt be retrofitted to use the new equipment that amd has instore so it was creating to much waste.
its a shame that the meployees loose a job but it makes your purchase more affordable.
this = better prices
and it would take alot more to tumble amd its just too big.

That we'll see AMD/Micron package deals? Like maybe a 1.4 TBird and 256MB Micron PC2100 sold together for cheap? That would be a more than acceptable side-effect.

maby there is a possiblty that fab 14-15 micron is intrested in buying it and converting it to ram.. just an idea....amd is doing great compared the p4....and since intel is droping the PIII after christmas to focus on the p4 fully and celeron.... and the new athlon4 will be clocked with PR raitings that will help buyers decide to get athlons and therfour help out amd ....i saw that for 440,000 P4 sold amd sold 7million durons and 9million athlons..correct of if i am wrong and like 13million PIIIs but now since p3 is going athlon4 will have a better chance at taking more marketshare
