View Full Version : Very unhappy with my new Radeon
I bought a Radeon 64 DDR a month ago and I am not happy with it. I got it hoping for really high 3DMark scores, I am getting under 3000, when watching a DVD if I am doing something else at the same time is still bogs down the computer. What is wrong with this card? I read about other people who love theirs. I have tried overclocking, powerstrip, radeon tweaker, and it still sucks. Am I doomed to stay with this or is there anything I can do? Should I sell it? It is a retail and only used for a month so I should be able to get some decent money for and maybe I'll just get another one. Any Ideas?

I have close to the same system and get 3124 on my Radeon LE o/ced to 195/195. I think yours are a bit low. You should probably get between at least 3400-3600 stock.

are u running 3dmark2001? radeon's totally suck for that benchmark ... i'm using an radeon AIW oc'ed to 180/180 and my max 3dmark score was about 3300.

Don't worry about 3DMark2001, they're VERY biased towards nVidia and Intel, practically optimized for it, so your scores don't display it's ability compared to the nVidia cards out there...

Radeon 64 DDR is an excellent card, I would suggest a fresh install and the latest beta drivers from Pinky.
The Radeon is as fast/faster as a GF2 Pro in framerate at 1024x768 32 bit colour. It is slower at 16 bit but who plays that.
If you had a nvidia card in the past get detonator destryer at www.guru.com to remove all the older driver files, maybe this is a problem. I have a T Bird 1.2 pc 266 with 2x256 pc2100 crucial ddr ram and my score was a 880 point increase from my Asus Geforce 256 DDR 32 mg deluxe card.
I find the 2d video quality blows nvidia away and this card will support what alot of new games will offer in the future, currently all of its features are not being used. Thats my 2 cents, best of luck and you have a great card, try a format if you can ....

The thing with the Radeon is the same as with my Kyro II,
I do really love it, as it looks great in games´, the 32 bit Colour and the FSAA are amazing..
Bad thing about it, it totally sucks in 3D Mark, especially in 2001..
But this doesn´t matter in Real-live...
So, be happy with your Radeon and enjoy it

I think the GeForce 3 came out a while after they made 3dmark2001... ??? So how could they optimize 4 it?
The main reason it gets good marks is cuz its a damn fine card. :D
3dmark2001:
640x480x16 = 8020
1024x768x32 = 6850

From what I have read 3DMark 2001 has been setup and geared more so towards nvidia based cards. How would you explain that a GF2 Pro card and a Radeon 64 DDR card vivo have equal framerates @ 1024x768 32 bit colour with the Radeon in many tests posting more fps?
There is something more to 3Dmark 2001 that leans towards nvidia based cards. Also from what I understand the Radeon also has some features which have not even been utilized with curent games, correct me if I am wrong.

My statements have been made based on what I have read on this board and also opinions of both GF owners and radeon owners, btw GF cards are great gaming cards, they just lack the 2d video quality of ATI....

I completely agree with you Ranger. My Radeon is tweaked from 165 to 203. First I did everything to get the best 3D Marks, but I do not care anymore about this. I'm going for quality view now and I have enabled FSAA and everything else which has to do with a nice view. By doing so, my 3D Marks 2001 dropped from 3700 to 1300, but isn't the most important thing to enjoy a nice picture?
I wouldn't trust the 3DM2k and 2k+1 Benchies for anything other than a GeForce card. 2k and 2k1 are designed to give users of the GeForce line an inflated head, and everybody else a steaming load of bad news.

3d mark 2000 and 2001 gives people a way to tweak there cards and see how much they can get out of thim
I used to like tweaking the card that 2d mark was the only way for me to see if the tweak is working
but now Im tweaking for quality
I run at 100+fps in all games they have now so why do I care what my score is=]

I think the ATI 8500 will change that ;)
