Can anyone recommend a better one? I've been using it for a while and it seems to slow everything down and when i try to shut it down or uninstall it it shuts down my entire connection. Does anyone know how to get rid of it right?

to get rid of it, just run the uninstall like you would any other program
As far as software firewalls go, zonealarm is the best i've ever used. Although someone once told me he liked Black Ice (but I think that one costs $$)

I'm with amedeo here. I use it on all of my machines and I still get very good speed on a cable modem. Are you using a dial-up connection?

Had black ice for a while but if a nat flaps its wings in the Pacific you get an alert. Zone alarm works well for me on a cable connection.

I've used Z/A on both cable and dial up and never had slow down problems from it.

You've had several replies already, but to answer another part of your question:
To fully uninstall ZA, there are some registry entries that have to be manually removed. The uninstaller doesn't completely clean it from your system. Check their site for complete directions. It's tedious but fairly easy. Don't forget to back up the registry, though.

Will zonealarm or norton 2001 work with XP? I heard that some of these firewalls and virus scanners (norton 2001) have compatablility issues with XP.
