my sys
epox 8k7a+
crucial 256mb ram
radeon 32mb ddr (not le)
duron@800
I think thats all you need to know, ask if u need more info.
well when i run my games at 32bit colur i get a decrease in performance. this has a much bigger performance drop when at high res.
I changed from 2x (agp) to 4x thinking that might slovve the problem, it helped, but its still slower in 32bit. my agp aperture size is 128. any idea's? i've done some tweaking around and have manged to improve performance slightly, but still not close to par on the performance of 16bit. I have the 7075 drivers and latest miniport drivers.
any idea's?
thanks

Are you overclocking the Radeon and what is your FSB of your system? Have you tried running test with the card and your computer at stock speeds to see if your overclock is slowing things down?

i've tried ocing and running it at stock (radeon) (i've only gotten icreases in performance, not decreases). but haven't tried running my duron at stock. my fsb is at 133. I doubt it, but could my cpu be limiting me?

i wanna fix this, so your help is vary much appreiated. to give you an idea of the diffrences:
in ut at 1600x1200x16: 60fps at 1600x1200x32: 15fps
this is a huge diffrence.
any suggestions are welcome
thanks in advance

Did you have DirectX 8 installed, when you installed your Radeon drivers?

Do you have any other games (say Quake3 OpenGL) to see if the drop from 16 to 32 is as big as what your getting now?
I really have no idea, just trying to eliminate the possibility of it being a UT problem.
Good luck :)

iT is happing in all games and the framerate loss is about equal.

oh and it seems to only drop in performance when at 1024x768 and above. at 1024x768 the decrease is 5% at 1280x1024 the performance drop is about 30%. and at 1600x1200 my framerate is cut in half, or more.

Honestly, that sounds about normal for any video card. You up the resolution and things will slow down.
Try doing the tests at stock CPU Mhz. It could be your FSB is getting to the Radeon, but I highly doubt it. Not with the stats that you put up. I think it's just about normal.

Yup sounds normal to me, you can't expect to run games @ 1600x1200x32 on a standard Radeon and get 60+FPS, it just ain't gonna do it. 16 bit requires less processing power so you might get away with that.
Look at any benchmark scores for the Radeon and you'll see that it starts to struggle a bit @32bit after 1152x864, but most cards will (except the GF3 I guess).

well acturally i has reading a review of the radeon over at anand's and the diffrence between 16bit and 32bit is only a few fps.

Correct, because the Radeon is optimised for 32 bit. My point was that the majority of current cards will seriously struggle to produce anything playable at 1600x1200x32

yes but the fact that my radeon can play 1600x1200x16 at 70fps and at 1600x1200x32 it can only do 25fps.(ut).
how do you explain that?

That's not true. The great thing about the Radeon is that between its 16-bit and 32-bit the difference is no more than a few fps, EVEN up to 1600x1200.
