I am wondering if it is considered “normal” for my temps to be 40C idle and only to raise to 45C under full load. I think this is a bit odd, but I’m happy w/ my temps (44C max temp w/ my two sanyos@12v, 45C when they are@5v. Stock Intel at full load was 70C.)

it is possible, if you have very very good cooling. I'd expect a lower idle temp though.

change in temp is always more important. depends greatly on the processor (some have very low idle).

That seems fine for a pressie. Mine idled at 42c and hit 50c load on air, yours is pretty much the same.

Well, the details are that I have a 3.0E Presscott, my watercooling is a 2-302 w/ a 1" shroud and two of Dockguy's 120mm Sanyo's@5v(1C difference between 12 and 5v, i'll take the 5...) CPU block is a D-tek Whitewater, TIM is AS5, Eheim 1250 for pump, T line, and ~9' of tubing.

Most wc'ers will have anywhere from 3c to 10c difference in idle/load temps if their setups are decent.

Also it dpends on how your board reads the temp. On my old Epox 8DRA+ If I put a fan right over the W/B, temps would drop B/C it was cooling the probe. I say thats a great drop. Also depending on your ambient as this is huge. The big thing for me is change in idle and load temps. If these are farily close 3-5Cs everything is right.

Sounds to me like you are reading via the socket and not the CPU core. Does that number rise instantly when it goes from idle to load? Instantly as in within less than a second? If so it is the CPU core, if it rises gradually in more than a second, it is a socket reading.

Check out my sticky in General CPU's about the CPU temperatures. It talks about reading from the diode and why. :)

When I pause Folding, it takes 3 seconds for the temp to change (i have set mbm to check once a second.) However, In your guide, you say all abit motherboards can read the CPU diode, which I have(abit IC7-MAX3 & a socket 478 P4) Im confused, does my motherboard have an external diode and can still read my cpu's diode?

Yes sun your board reads on die... and reads quite a bit higher than other 478 boards; ASUS for example reads dreadfully low. Anyway, what you see is normal. When I was on that board and my 3.2E, the difference between idle and load for me was 2-3C, that is all.

Ok, yea, even when I just added my filters my idle went up 3C and load is now 47C
