I have a 3Com 3C905B-TX NIC at home connected to an 8-port HUB on a home local area Network. The problem is, the computer ( running Windows 2000 Professional SP-2 ) that uses this NIC, once connected to the LAN, causes all connections on the Hub to disconnect. Looking at the hub, the collision LED light is on. So, I thought that the card might be defective.

To confirm, I swapped the card to a different computer ( running Microsoft Windows XP ), but this time, the card worked perfectly and had not any connection problems.

So, one probable problem might be the driver, but I have already downloaded the latest driver for the card at 3Com's site but still have the same problem... I've been looking for a 3Com Win XP driver but hadn't any luck so far....

help!!!

I posted a thread similar to this. When my win2k machine boots with an old 3com 3c515tx ISA 10/100 card, the card initializes when the machine is turned on, but when windows boots, the card is turned off. Your card might not be on the win2k compatibility list, even though the drivers are loaded. But disconnecting all other cards is weird. The problem is on your end, it seems.

LinkStatic check and make sure you don't have an ip address conflict between to of the machines on your network.

Guess What? It's your NIC. We currently switched over 40 computers all with 3com NIC's over to Win2000 Pro and everyone would cause our whole network to crash (400+ computers). So we had a Linksys card laying around a bingo, problem solved. Since we switched all computers to the Linksys card they are running like a dream. It must be a corrupt or bad driver or like some one said, there just not 100% compatible. And we worked on this problem for a week. Switch to Linksys, I bet your problem will disapper.

yeah, I guess its the drivers. My NIC is working, since I have no problem with it when it is used on a system running win XP.

And I'm pretty sure that I have no IP conflicts with other PC's connected on the LAN...I already checked that....

I wonder if the drivers used for Win XP will work on Win2K...?

I'm currently looking for 3Com drivers for XP to try on Win2K but still cant find one....:(
