View Full Version : How can I install 2kpro and 2kpro alone on my HDD
I have a OEM version of 98 installed on my HDD that I dont want on there anymore I tried to delete the backup files for 98 in 2k but every single time I restart I still get the choice between a dead 98 link or 2Kpro. How can I get 2k installed alone , other than just getting a new HDD.

Have you deleted or otherwise gotten rid of win98.

Quickest way would be to reformat and just reinstall 2000. It still thinks 98 is there 'cos there'll be certain system files still on the HDD (I forget which exactly, probably boot.ini).

Go to RUN>C:BOOT.INI once in there it gives option of which one you want to remove then just delete that path

I think so I found the Win98 backup files on the C:drive and deleted them , then if I try to enter the 98 version at reboot I just get stuck since all or most of ther files have been deleted (dead link).

I reformated twice but 98 stayed both times is there a special way to remove 98 when I reformat with 2Kpro.
After the second reformatt I just deleted the backup files for 98 on the C:drive.

Nice , I think you nailed it I'm going to reboot in a few minutes to see if this works. Should I remove / "fast detect" right after Windows 2000?
The INI says I have one partition for /WINNT how can I remove this? I didnt think I had patitioned drive I was thinking if you partition you drive you would get two drive like a C:drive ½ size and a D:drive 1/2 the size? The whole reason I wanted to remove 98 was because I thought both OS where installed on the same partition or drive which was cousing some conflicts (internet , benchmarks).

I would leave anything with winnt alone just remove the path related win9x keep the fast detect don't remove anything related to win2k
Thanks everyone I finally got a true clean install of 2Kpro , its running much more stable now and my benchmarks improved.
