I plan to install XP corp edition. I am running Win 98 SE with all patches. I have seen XP on a friends machine and I must say it sure is sweet, what an interface and the functionality seems great although it will take some getting used to.

I wanted to know if I should format before installing or if I can just upgrade to it without formatting. I really do not want to format cause I have too much stuff and the os is working fine with no glitches. Anyone got suggestions?

You can do a upgrade, and just stay with FAT32 if you dont wanna format. You'll get a choise to format using NTFS file system, or leave fiel system alone. It is the same as going to 2000 or any other OS. Just dont format adn pick to leave file system alone.

Will some type of problem occur converting the data base of 98 se to NTFS? This type of data base is better than fat 32 but will I run into probs?? Lemme know

Why not dual boot? That is the safest way to test out a new OS while still having access to your old OS in case you run into trouble.

I think personally dual; boot is a waste of time, you really only need one os... My choice I guess , I plan to upgrade my laptop first from Win 2K to Xp soon as I figure out how you format Win2K , help been asking no one has answered yet...

If you think dual booting is a waste of time then you should not do it but for many users it pays off big time when you want to learn a new OS but still need a computer to perform work. It allows you to still have a reliable system on which all your old apps work. I had a problem with my network printer under Win2K but I was able to reboot in Win98 and print off my documents that had to be printed ASAP. It is true that dual booting is a little more work but you get that element of safety.
