View Full Version : got a big problem with my new water cooling system with peltier, HELP PLEASE!!!

I just finished my water cooling rig yesterday, it was attach to a 152W peltier and supply by a 2rd 300W ATX PS, now whenever I turn on the pelter, the system won't boot up, the monitor just didn't recieve any signal at all, if I turn on the peliter after the system has boot up, no matter when the PC is in BIOS or Window, it'll just freeeze within few seconds, if I turn the peltier off, then the system can boot up normally. and a strange thing is if I put my finger on the water block, I can feel a little electric current pass thru my body. I am sure I didn't place the hot side toward the cpu because I tested it before I installed on the motherboard, help me please!

Yeah, um, yer gonna wanna take that apart.

That electricity thing is, well, bad. I don't know if a wire got crimped or what, but if you've got power running loose, you are lucky to have a computer left.

Rip it our and examine your pelt and wires VERY carefully.

Could be a whole host of problems.. Could be that the pelt is too weak for system.. Give us some specs.

thanks guys, hopefully my PC won't blow out :(

water cooling system

152Watt peltier
Maze2-2 waterblock
3/8 PVC tube

PC system:

T-bird 1.33GHZ before overclock
T-bird 1.60GHZ@1.91 when I used SK6
Geforce2
IBM HD
SB Live sound card
Plextor 12x CDR
Plextor 36X CDROM SCSI
Toshbia 12X DVD SCSI

300Watt PS attach to system
300Watt PS attach to peltier

My water cooling is a 'open' system which get water directly from one of my apartment water pipe -> waterblobk -> sink

Thanks for help

very strange, I put the tower case flat on the floor and it works now, I am running 1.60 GHZ 1.93V @ 42C (full load) is this normal for a 152Wattt pelt water cooling system?

damn even it's working now but I still kinda feel not safe with this system;(, one thing I did wrong maybe I turn on the system before the silicon II complelety dry or maybe I spray too much acrylic lacquer conformal coating...

Maybe your motherboard or PSU weren't grounded...always a possibility.

Name stealer :p

I'm not a pelter myself, but from what I've read, isn't a 300W atx supply grossly insufficient for a 152W pelt? I thought you need a 24v supply for those big-watt pelts, no? Anyways, I'd expect to see much lower temps if all was well.

your pelt is strong enough you just need a better powersupply

a ATX 300 doesnt put out quite enough volt/amps

there may of been a loose wire or some and when you set if on the ground it moved

or like you said it could be the silicon

I think the psu has a ground wire so I donno why it wouldnt be grounded

Well, for a 1.6 @ 1.9V you really want to have a bigger pelt on there...maybe even duals. At least, you do if you wanna get decent temps. You also really need to get a decent PSU on that sucker, the one you have is going to burn out if you don't change it soon, and it's not adequately supplying power to your pelt.

Also make sure you don't have any current running through your system..I wouldn't really trust that it running while on its side means that the current you felt just went away.

Thanks for the help guys,

That's true my I run my PS on 11.65V around 11.65amps I guess
the peltier is 152watt Imax 16.1 Vmax 15.8
I think the opt. V and amps for this pelt is around 13.2V and 13 amps probably
good thing is this PS just a temp, I am waiting for a 500Watt AT PS (12V 19amps) hopefully it will improve a bit or do you think I should get a bench supply?

I know very little about electricity, Thelemac could you tell me what do you mean by "don't have any current running through your system", is it relate to the wiring stuff?

running little better now 1.62 @ 1.93V 44C 26C

2 x 172watts pelts will be great... if i got the funds:)

By current running through your system I was referring to the jolt that you felt when you touched your waterblock.

That's all.

ahhh, Wolfenstein test rules! I love playing that, I'm always in and out with the capture before the timer hits 5 minutes remaining, so everyone's like "huh?? woohoo!" or "wtf", allies/axis, respectively :D

Are you any good? Possibly recruiting clan members(as soon as this clan is officially started...)

I guess I am above aveage:), I usually got top 3 in my team in terms of killing in 32players server (Wolf demo), I am probably one of the top 3 players in No One Live Forever:) MP, I am currently in a clan call GodFathers and we'll very likely tranfer to Wolfenestin in the near furture, here is the website just in case you wanna check it out;) http://24.95.11.13/
